Look: Goldilux Glory

Wowie! This Sugarpill Goldilux is like the best gold ever! This gold and black smokey eye was like whoa! How did I forget to take a picture of a closed eye?! Seriously?! Ugh. Oh well. You can pretty much see it in the full face shots. This look was truly stunning in real life. The gold GLOWS. The High Voltage shadows are dark with some gold sparkle, so they matched perfectly. And look how well they blended together! *sigh* I am in love :-)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: NARS Eyeshadow Primer (primer), Sugarpill Goldilux (inner & middle lid), High Voltage Stargazer (outer lid), High Voltage Dark Romance (crease), MAC Femme-Fi & Sugarpill Tako (highlights), High Voltage Dark Romance (wet)(liner), High Voltage Stargazer (wet)(lower lashline), MAC Orpheus (waterline), MAC Haute & Naughty mascara
  • Cheeks: MAC Refined Golden bronzer
  • Lips: Guerlain Rouge G #14 lipstick, MAC Bling Black glimmer gloss

Review & Swatches: Sugarpill Cosmetics

Well HELLO gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! This was a much anticipated haul. After seeing some outstanding reviews of this indie brand called Sugarpill, I had to check it out. Oh it is sooooooo flipping worth every penny. Amy, the maker of the brand, is a goddess. Seriously. How did she make these colors?! She’s a super sweetheart and she really stands behind her products (vegan btw). Now I’m a girl who knows her shadows. These go at the top of my list. Best ever. My only complaint is that there aren’t more colors for me to invest in LOL!!

OMG everything about this line is sexy. The boxes are sexy. The website where I ordered it all from is sexy. The packaging is sexy. The names are sexy. The colors….blow. my. mind.

My order came in a beautiful box stamped with the oh-so-cute Sugarpill logo (cute kitteh!).

Everything was wrapped in hot pink paper and there was even a little note hand singed by Amy!

Nails: Lippmann Across the Universe

This polish is unique like only Lippmann could do it! It’s an aqua blue base with different sizes of glitter including her infamous hex glitter pieces.  This is two coats.

It wasn’t completely opaque in two coats, but a third seemed daunting with all of that glitter. Fortunately the glitter spreads evenly and is visible through the base color. This polish is a win for me. It’s not as beautiful as Ruby Red Slippers, but it’s still beautiful!

Pretty, isn’t it? It reminds me of mermaids and water. See more pictures!!   Read the rest of this entry »

Review & Swatches: High Voltage Order #1

I mentioned recently that I’ve been into Indie cosmetic companies. What I love most is that I can actually talk to these people on Twitter. I found out about High Voltage Cosmetics from Brian from Makeup by Brian Kelly. She was having a buy 2, get 1 free sale (still going on until the end of October), so I had to try some. I am nothing but impressed!

From the personalized note to the quick response to the beautiful colors – this is a brand I’m instantly in love with. I’ve already placed another order. High quality for a good price…seriously hard to beat! :-)

My order came wrapped in a cute Halloween bag!

A sweet personalized note from the maker of High Voltage cosmetics (Jasmine).

She put tap on the jars to make sure they stayed shut in transit!

Very clearly labeled on the back (and I got a sample of another color in the baggie).

I swatched these colors both dry and wet. Truly amazing!! You HAVE to see the swatches after the jump!  Read the rest of this entry »

Look: Black Base Yields Green

I love wearing greens. This time, I switched it up a little. As a base, I used black, then layered green pigments over it. The color on the inner lid is actually a pretty sheer white pigment with green undertones. Look how it pops over the black! The middle color is more gold than green, but it fits the category. I was really happy with the way this look turned out. And the lipgloss kicks butt – I love it! There’s just no better combo than green with gold and coral! :-)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Primer, MAC Blackground PP, MAC Painterly PP, Makeup Store Soft Grass pigment (inner lid & brow bone), Fyrinnae Aztec Gold pigment (middle lid), Fyrinnae Boytoy (outer lid), MAC She Who Dares mineralized duo (green side) (outer lid), MAC Femme Fi (highlight), MAC Jealous Kohl Power (upper lashline), UD 24/7 Mildew (waterline & lower lashline), MAC Opulash mascara
  • Cheeks: MAC Bite of an Apple blush, MAC Truth & Light Magically Cool Liquid Powder (highlight)
  • Lips: MAC Strange Potion lipglass

Nails: Milani Rad Purple with Pure Ice Heartbreaker

Two drugstore polishes put together to make something truly amazing! This is Milani Rad Purple (3 coats) topped with Pure Ice Heartbreaker (2 coats). You can find Milani at CVS, and Rad Purple is always there when I go. It’s a jelly finish…squishy looking once you put a good topcoat on it. It’s part of the neon collection, so it dries a little matte before you top coat it. This is one of my favorite polishes, believe it or not. I <3 jelly polishes!!! Anyway, Pure Ice is a brand that is pretty much only found in Walmart. I come across it every so often depending on how run down the Walmart is.

I got this idea from a beautiful MUA NBer named audrealena who happens to be local! She and I ran into each other at a Sally’s one day, and she noticed my nails and complimented me. Then later in the day, she posted on the board about seeing me and wondering if I was a NBer too (we didn’t know each other at all). I saw her post and said “It was me!!!” Haha! Neat, huh? Well, this is her creation, and I am hopefully flattering her by recreating it myself.

Pictures don’t really do this one justice, but I sure did try…really hard. I took WAY too many pictures of this one, but I couldn’t help it :-) So pretty!!!!  Read the rest of this entry »

Look: Fyrinnae Pinks & Purples

I’m soooo into these indie brands lately! I am really loving pigments more than anything else right now. I’m sure it’s a phase, but it’s a phase that I’m really enjoying! Fyrinnae is ONE of the best brands out there (only available online), and I have lots of pigments from this company. Everything is vegan, and they have their very own chemist making the cosmetics. What is so great about this company is that you can order samples of the pigments for less than $2 each! And a sample from Fyrinnae is bigger than a little baggie – it’s a small jar that would take you LOTS of looks to finish.  I love this brand and am currently plotting my next order. However, everyone else out there seems to love them too, so sometimes they take down their site to control the number of orders, and shipping does take time. They’re a small company, but WELL worth the wait!

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eye Primer (primer), MAC Painterly PP (base), Fyrinnae Healing Touch (inner lid), Fyrinnae Kitten in Heels (middle lid), Fyrinnae Faerie Glamour (outer lid), Fyrinnae Fyre & Ice (crease), Makeup Store Angel (highlight), MAC Point Black (upper lashline), UD 24/7 Ransom (waterline), MAC Opulash mascara
  • Cheeks: MAC Briar Rose Beauty Powder
  • Lips: MAC Wrong Spell lipglass (thin layer), MAC Resort Life lipgelee

Nails: Zoya Yasmeen

I’m wearing all purple today! From my eyeshadow, blush, lipgloss, and sweater, to my nail polish! It actually looks better than it sounds LOL! :-) Here’s a beautiful purple polish – one that just glows! Zoya Yasmeen has multiple dimensions of colored sparkle in this purple polish.

See that glow from within quality? Gorgeous! I love purple polish on me, and not just because it’s my favorite color. I think the color works really well with my skin tone, since I have so much pink in my coloring.

By the way, did you know that Zoya is vegan and safe for expectant mothers? This goes for their polish AND nail polish remover (Remove +) which is the BESTEST remover on the planet!!! It doesn’t smell bad, it doesn’t dry out your hands or nails, and it removes polish like a breeze! Anyway, see more pictures of Yasmeen!!  Read the rest of this entry »

Look: Venomous Villains in Purples

Here is another look using more of the items from the MAC Venomous Villains collection. I used at least one thing from the eyes, to the cheeks, to the lips – all from that collection!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eye Primer (primer), MAC Painterly Paint Pot (base), MAC Her Alter Image (inner lid), MAC Vile Violet (middle lid), MAC My Dark Magic (outer lid & crease), MAC Vellum (highlight), YSL dark green liquid liner (upper lashline), UD 24/7 Ransom (waterline), MAC Opulash mascara
  • Cheeks: MAC Briar Rose Beauty Powder
  • Lips: MAC Wrong Spell lipglass, MAC Resort Life lipgelee

Nails: Orly Royal Navy

Have you ever liked a polish more in the bottle than on your nail? Me too. This was one of those kinds of polishes. It’s not that I didn’t like it in my nails…it was just brighter than I thought it was going to be. It’s still super pretty though. I wore this when I was in Costa Rica, so the sun made it look very pretty!

It’s a royal blue with turquoise shimmer. It seems to glow, doesn’t it? The nail line was not visible in real life. This is 2 coats.

Looking at pictures makes me like it a lot, but I remember not loving it when I was wearing it. It’s still nice though, and I can think of several great polishes that I could layer over it. Maybe I’ll try to Konad with it sometime. What do you think of bright blue polishes?
