Hi and welcome to Coloruza.com! My name is Heather Karuza and this is my makeup blog.
I’m a free-lance MAC makeup artist in Los Angeles. I do makeup everyday…mostly my own, but I have clients as well. You can find out more about what services I offer and pricing here.
The purpose of this blog is to post and archive many of my makeup looks. I will also show swatches in addition to my own reviews of many makeup products.
It will be quite obvious that my #1 brand is MAC. However, I have been delving into other great brands lately like Bobbi Brown, YSL, Laura Mercier, Guerlain, Bare Escentuals, NARS, Dior, CK, and my long time favorite Chanel. There are a few others I like too, but those are my favorites!
Now about me…
I’m almost 28 years old. I’m a big city girl living in Los Angeles and loving every minute of it! I was born in Kansas, but have lived in Birmingham, AL, Tucson, AZ, and the suburbs of Sacramento, CA too. I came to LA in 1999 after graduating Valedictorian of my high school class to enroll in UCLA (Go Bruins!!). With my BS in Mathematics (my other passion in life) and a Specialization in Computing, I began my career as a Math Teacher while continuing my Masters in Education also from UCLA. I’ve taught 7th and 8th grade math and Algebra, plus a little Geometry and Pre-Calculus during intersession times. Currently, I’m the 7th and 8th grade Mathematics Instructional Coach at Thomas A. Edison Middle School in South Central LA where I’ve been for the past 6 years (since I started working). I really love it there, and I love my students. Though I now have an out-of-classroom position, my love is still in teaching those kids…hopefully to love math as much as I do!
On a more personal level, I’ve been married to my wonderful and very supportive husband, Jason Karuza, for 2.5 years now. We met in 2001 in the UCLA marching band! He’s a computer software engineer, and we have two kitties named Zeus and Zorah.

April 24th, 2009 at 9:03 AMWhat’s your make-up background? I’m really interested in makeup and cosmetology, but it’s hard to find good instruction here in the more rural parts of Georgia where I live. Is traditional schooling the only way to become a professional? Ooh, I can’t wait to move to a bigger city!

April 24th, 2009 at 9:37 AMHi Nagiko! I don’t really have a makeup background to be honest! I’m self-taught. I just love it and practice on myself everyday. My day-job is a middle school mathematics teacher, so this is just my “other love” or my hobby so-to-speak hehe :-) You can become a professional with no formal training at all!

April 24th, 2009 at 11:48 AMThat’s so cool! I used to teach 9th grade English! I’m on the administrative side of education now, but I still get some teaching done in the form of tutoring.

April 24th, 2009 at 1:02 PMYep! I’m actually doing an Admin Tier 1 program next year (I already applied). I don’t know if I want to be an administrator yet, but we’ll see. It’s nice to have options :-)
