Swatches & Review: High Voltage Lip Whips

High Voltage Cosmetics makes more than just eyeshadows. These are lip whips: very opaque glosses in a squeeze tube. They have a slight mint scent and are non-sticky. I love that a little bit goes a long way with these – you really have to apply them with a lip brush (especially the darker shades). The colors are gorgeous and the formula is so silky smooth. Sadly, her ingredient supplier has discontinued some of the key ingredients in these, so Jasmine will be phasing these out. But not to worry! She has several left, and she is always creating new things that I cannot wait to try. Ok, on to the swatches! (Sorry for the messy towel background…that was my swatching towel, and some pigments got on it.)

Top Row: Talk Talk, Slow Jam, Life of the Party
Bottom Row: Little Misfit, Kashmir, Sour Candy

Look: Anti V-Day?

To make myself clear, I will never be anti V-day (Valentine’s Day). How could I?! It’s my birthday!!! I understand why some people are, but I definitely consider myself lucky…even if I didn’t have a Valentine growing up, I still felt special because it was my birthday. My dad would get me, my sister, and my mom corsages to wear for the day, we’d go out to dinner (my choice), and I would always be my parents’ special Valentine :-) My mom likes to tell the story that I didn’t understand that the class wasn’t having a party on Valentine’s Day for me/my birthday until I was like 6 (whoops! hahaha). Well now that I’m married, I have a Valentine for life, and couldn’t be happier about that.

So now the reason for this title…GlamourDollsEyes is having a contest on Facebook for the best “Anti V-Day” Look. So this is going to be my entry. When I saw this contest, I knew this was the look I needed to enter…it’s really kinda anti-me. Sorta like my alter ego…bright eyes, bold lip, tossed hair, a little sad…a bad-girl kind of look for me. ;-) I do not yet have any Glamourdolleyes eyeshadows, but I am dying to try some!!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Primer, MAC Painterly PP (base), Sugarpill Buttercupcake (bottom middle of lid), Sugarpill Flamepoint (crease), Sugarpill Love+ (above crease), Sugarpill Poison Plum (outer lid & lower lashline), Sugarpill Dollipop (brow bone & lower lashline), Sugarpill Tako (highlight), MUFE Aqua Eyes 0L liner (upper lashline & waterline), MUFE Smokeylash mascara
  • Cheeks: MAC Briar Rose Beauty Powder Blush
  • Lips: Fyrinnae Meerkat (loose shadow mixed with MAC clear lipglass)

Look: Chanel SoHo Collection

I’m not completely sure how I feel about the eyeshadow quad, but one thing is for sure: I LOVE the lips!! The quad is nice, but kinda weird. The silvery color is way more pigmented than I expected, so it’s kinda bright. I honestly didn’t expect it to show up at all. The middle color is sheer, and it gives my lids that slick/oily look, which I absolutely cannot stand in makeup pictures. Finally, the dark color really wasn’t that pigmented either. I decided to keep it as-is so I could just use the colors in the palette. Not darkening up the crease isn’t a very “me” look, but the way the lips wrapped it all up…totally saved the look IMO.

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, Chanel Stupendous Eyeshadow Quad, Bobbi Brown Violet Shimmer Ink (upper lashline), MAC Smolder Eyekohl (waterline), MAC Opulash Mascara
  • Cheeks: Chanel Rose Pink JC
  • Lips: Chanel Stunt Rouge Allure Laque

Look: Shady Lady w/ Guerlain Gems!

Didn’t I tell ya I love this Shady Lady palette?! The colors blend beautifully. The little pop of green helped the eyes come together and not be too dark. But the real star of this look is the lipstick. Guerlain Rouge G lipstick are some of the most glorious and luxurious ones on the market. Gems was limited edition – a beautiful coral pink. So perfect, it doesn’t need any gloss on top. :-)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Shady Lady palette: Jet-setting-jennifer (inner lid), easy wheezie (middle lid), all about alex (outer lid), jealous jordana (crease), MAC Solar White (highlight), Bobbi Brown Forest Shimmer Ink (upper lash line), UD Grafitti (waterline), Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: Cheeky Bronze MSF
  • Lips: Guerlain Gems Rouge G l/s

Look: Sorta <3 it...

Meh, not a great look this time. I think I needed liner on the bottom or something… It’s just light, and doesn’t do it for me, but hey, maybe it’s more someone else’s style? :-)

Sorta heart That Look (16)

Sorta heart That Look (2)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Yaby Lt. Pink (base), Grand Entrance (inner lid), Style Snob (middle lid), Strike a Pose (outer lid & crease), Solar White (highlight), Laura Geller Blueberry baked cake (liner), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: X-Rocks
  • Lips: Chignon l/s + Snowscene l/g

Look: Hawaiian Dress Day @ School with Dior Purple Jazz Club

Please excuse the stupid silly look today…the whole outfit kinda sucks, but I gotta participate to show my school spirit you know?

I don’t like the Dior Jazz club palettes. They’re nothing special and there’s really only 2 shadow colors. Meh, not impressed. I already have a purple liner…and the “topcoat” is lame! I’m gonna try to take them back. What do you think (silly outfit aside)? The lip combo though…wowie! TDF! Sparkle for days :-) Made me stare at my lips all the way to school LOL!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Painterly PP (base), Dior Purple Jazz Club #002 Palette (includes liner), Vellum (highlight), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Gleeful mineralize blush
  • Lips: High Top lipstick (Fafi) + Chanel Summer Plum Glossimer

Look: Awesome Frosted Lips w/ Blue Eyes

Before I move on to the cosmetics of this post, I have to give a shout out to my girls: Marie & Christie! My husband and I went up to Santa Barbara this weekend to visit our friends Taylor and Marie. We also met up with my husband’s college roommate Eric, and his fiancée Christie! This was my first time meeting Christie, and the first thing she asked me was what look I was wearing (to be posted soon), then she said she was a big fan of my blog and was even sporting the Honey Love look! OMG I was soooooo flattered! It was just neat! So I gotta say HI! and thanks for reading my blog! Marie reads too, and was telling me about how several of her coworkers do too – and I was just so surprised, because I don’t know who reads/looks unless they leave a comment. So here’s a shout-out to Marie’s friends and coworkers at the iMac store (not to be confused with the MAC store lol)!

Ok…on to the makeup…

I’m a huge fan of frosted lip colors. It’s hard finding good ones though, so I’m highly impressed with MAC’s Madly Creative lipstick which came out with Colour Craft. As for the Fashion Patch MES quad…meh. It’s ok…not bad enough to take back, but not good enough to rave about either. Stay tuned though…I’ll be raving about some quad’s I’ve discovered (not so new, but I just jumped on the bandwagon) very soon!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPPS (primer), Fusion Gold + Metal Blu Metal X cream shadows (base), Fashion Patch MES quad, Bobbi Brown Sapphire Ink (liner), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Daft Pink mineralized blush + Shell Pearl Iridescent Powder
  • Lips: Madly Creative l/s

Look: My Turquoise Best Look

I adore wearing teals and turquoise. My absolute favorite look I’ve ever done on myself is my Icy Blue Clouds Look. I decided to do something similar for my look for a nice dinner out for my husband’s 27th birthday (Happy Birthday Jason!) I swear, this has to be one of my favorite lip combos too. What do you think? I put this look up on MUA, and mostly got raving comments, but some thought it was over done, too much, or just not their style with so much bold bright color. To each their own, right? :-)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPPS (primer), Yaby light and dark teal (base), Crystal Avalanche (inner lid), Warm Chill + Parrot (middle lid), Gulf Stream (outer lid), Stormwatch (crease), a touch of Bobbi Brown Caviar shadow in the crease, Sugarshot (highlight) UD 24/7 Electirc (lower lashline), Smolder (upper lashline & waterline), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Hot Planet mineralized blush duo
  • Lips: Lollipop Loving l/s + Mimmy lipglass

Look: My Cousin’s Wedding

My little cousin Mallory got married in the little town of Abilene, TX. I was in her “House Party” which means pretty much nothing, but I got to walk down the isle with a wrist flower and be special for a night because we’re related, which was really nice. It was a freaking beautiful wedding. Parts of it were simple, and parts of it were exquisite. I was asked to wear a black dress, so this is the makeup I decided to wear with the black dress, evening, 450 people attending wedding. Simple, matte, neutral eyes and dark lips. At first I went with a dark silvery lipstick (Chantecaille’s Luna), but my husband said it looked like it was for a funeral. So I switched to the YSL #41, which I felt was too bright. So thank goodness I brought that black gloss – it was so perfect to darken up the lip color! As my mom said,” Who would’a thunk?!” She even wanted to try some on top of her mauve lipstick! Haha!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Painterly PP (base), Bobbi Brown Nude Palette, Bobbi Brown Black Ink liner, Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Eversun BPB
  • Lips: YSL Rouge Pur #41 l/s + Lancome Pila Black lipgloss

Look: For Denny’s Birthday!

Happy Birthday Eve, Denny! Tomorrow is Denny (one of my loyal reader/commenter’s) birthday! She sent me a message asking for a special look just for her, and here is what I decided on :-) For you Denny, nothing but the best! Dior on the eyes, MAC on the cheeks, and Bobbi Brown on the lips. She likes darker colors on lips, so that’s what I went with, while still keeping the look simple and sophisticated (because while birthdays are fun, they still mean you’re getting older!).It’s a berry wine color that still somehow manages to look neutral, but made-up, you know? Oh, and I did a little contouring on the cheeks. I kept the majority of the cheek color to the back (near the hair line) and a little below the cheek bone, then highlighted the top of the cheek bonewith a highlighting color to bring it out. I hope you like it Denny! :-)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Painterly PP (base), Dior Smokey Jazz Club #01 Palette (includes the liner), Graphblack Technakohl (waterline), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Fad-Dabulous Mineralized blush + Shell Pearl Irredescent Beauty Powder (higlight)
  • Lips: Bobbi Brown Kir Metalic Lip Color

BTW – when’s everyone else’s birthday? I think we should make a habit of getting to know each other – feel free to make a special request for YOUR birthday too :-)  Ok, now on to more pictures!  Read the rest of this entry »
