COLORUZA TURNS 1 !!!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Yep, one year ago today (on the very first day of 2009), I wrote my first post on Coloruza.com. This isn’t a large blog, but I really enjoy running it and can only hope for bigger and better things to come for us in 2010. Though I will be busy when school starts again, please know that I will not be too far away. So far, I’ve done 250+ posts, probably 95% of which were actual looks!

First, I want to thank you so much for reading, watching, lurking, and commenting. Each one of your page views and comments really mean a lot to me…so even if you can’t find another way to say it, keep on saying it, because I love it! Over the past year I got two Z-Palettes to test for free, but everything else is bought by my hard earned money. I do this blog for me, and now also for you, my dear readers :-) Thanks for all of your encouragement and feedback.

I wish that I had something to give away…and maybe someday soon I will…but in the mean time, please help me celebrate by doing one thing: Leave a comment telling me 1. Which Coloruza look is your favorite, and 2. What else (looks or otherwise) you’d like to see on Coloruza in 2010.

Thanks to everyone! Happy 2010!!!

Look: Girlish Romp Epic Fail!

I love my MAC, and everyone who knows me knows that, but this Girlish Romp MES quad was a complete and utter epic FAIL! Wow, I did my eyes using those 4 colors and I swear I looked like a zombie or dead or something. It was really bad. I’ll completely admit that there are looks that I do that I’m not so happy with, or that I think just aren’t very good…def. not worth doing again, but I rarely feel that they were a complete failure…here you go! I think I’m going to leave this post “Uncategorized” so it won’t show up if people were to do searches by color or brand.

The colors are like washes…seriously NO pigmentation. I really got it for that awesome looking golden white because I could see it as an amazing highlight…nope. Not even that one was worth it. I had to go over every one of those colors with some stronger colors, but that still didn’t seem to save me. Anyway, here is my failure of a look. :-( This item will be going back to the store VERY soon…

Girlish Romp Total Fail Look (16)

Girlish Romp Total Fail Look (4)

For this look I used (but wished I didn’t):

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Painterly PP (base), Girlish Romp MES quad, then I tried to fix it with: Rule (inner lid), Parfait Amour (middle lid), Heritage Rouge Pigment (outer lid & crease), Smolder (liner – also a big mistake), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Daft Pink mineralized blush
  • Lips: Bobbi Brown Baby Peach Metalic lip colour

Twitter & Facebook: A Shameless Plug

I don’t have time to do a whole post tonight (sorry…maybe in the morning?), but I thought I’d do a shameless plug and ask you to join me on Twitter   and Facebook  ! I’ve posted a lot of my favorite looks on Facebook, and I try to keep it updated as much as I can. Become a fan of Coloruza on Facebook!!! (There’s also a link on the right of this page…if you haven’t noticed haha!) And Twitter…well, it’s like being able to instant message with me sorta. I didn’t “get it” for a long time, but it’s really cool and I’m hooked now! Kelly from VampyVarnish 1 recently did a post explaining all about Twitter   and the benefits of joining (plus she’s doing a give-away!). I think she did a perfect job – better than I could. Heck, I already won a free nail polish just from being on Twitter, so it’s cool – join us (please) and stay updated! I promise it’ll be lots of fun! Love Ya!!

OMG My Hair is Gone!

Well, that’s exaggerating a lot, but it’s so short!! I pull it back to wash my face and it’s still everywhere because it doesn’t reach! I went to Avena to get it cut last week, and I like them because you get more for the price like a scalp massage, beverage, long hair wash. I had this really tall guy who was really nice, but he kept cutting…and cutting…and cutting…! The cutting went on for it had to be more than 20 minutes!  I’m kinda shy when it comes to hair people, so I didn’t say anything. I told him I just wanted a trim and that I liked the length…but maybe he didn’t. I don’t know, I just kept telling myself that he knows what he’s doing. He blow dried it out and fixed my bangs funny (well, funny to me), so I went home and took pictures to see how it really changed my look…and boy does it! Unfortunately, I don’t think it changes it for the better :-( Saddies!

Coloruza in Hawaii!

Hello my dear readers! Sorry for not posting yesterday or today. I spent literally all day today flying to get here (Kauai). It’s been insane…but I made it and my makeup did too, so here’s hoping it’s going to be a great…non-stressful week! Traveling in general tends to stress me out, and this is not really like what I was expecting…so…we’ll see what happens. I’ll do my best to keep posting looks as I can, but right now it’s midnight according to my body which has been awake since 5am so I’m gonna try to sleep for now. Aloha and mahalo! :-)

Look: My HG Red Lipstick!!

I can officially say that I have found my HG (holy grail) red lipstick! Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Allure in either #17 or #18 are my red lipstick to end all red lipsticks. I’m pretty confident that I will not buy another red lipstick again (unless it is like magic or something). This stuff goes on like butter, stays on like a stain, and is moisturizing, smooth, vibrant…it doesn’t fade or clump or bleed into my lips. If you’re not convinced, then I urge you to go to your local YSL counter (Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman, or even Sephora!) and get them to try it on you. Then go the rest of the day or night, or just shopping trip and take a look. You’ll be convinced and rush back to get it!

Heather’s on Temptalia!!!

Have I shared with you my obsession with all that is Temptalia.com  ?! I freaking LOVE that site and I check it sooooo many times a day. I aspire to be like Christine and for my site to someday be as wonderful as hers! I seriously don’t  know how she has the time to get all of that up…

Anyway, I wanted to share with you that I am featured in a Guest Look   on Temptalia’s site! I’d LOVE it if you’d leave a comment for me there! It’s one of my looks that’s posted here as well – Gold, Orange & Pink   is what I called it, but she changed the pink to brown, which I agree fits more. Go check out her site and my guest appearance! :-) Happy Wednesday!

Hard Work!!

Some of you might be wondering how my free-lancing job went today. One down, two to go. It was some HARD work!!! I got there early, was given my (kind of bare) brush belt, a quick tour around the inside of the counter, and a run-down of what to do. I think I handled everything pretty well.

I did 2 full make-overs and a few eye-demos. Other than that, I was the basic counter girl. I helped everyone who came up with everything they needed. The hardest part about the free-lance work is that I can’t actually do the checking out, so I have to ask all of the others to do the transactions for me, and I feel like I annoy them by always asking. But it’s ok cuz I did what I could to help out, always working, cleaning something, putting something away, asking people if they needed help, and trying my best not to get in the way…OMG it’s so hard to squeeze by people behind that counter hehe :-)

Tomorrow will probably be kinda nuts being Valentine’s Day and all. Doing the make-overs is only difficult because I don’t have everything I need right there near me. I have to go hunting for stuff, or someone else might be using it, or I just can’t find the color I need, etc. My feet hurt so so so so so bad, I can’t even explain it. It reminds me of my wedding day how much they hurt and continue to hurt even after I’m off of them!

Anyway, the other thing that kinda sucked was how many things they were out of. The counter is actually pretty tiny, but were sold out of so many things – I just hate showing people gorgeous colors that they fall in love with, then having to tell them we’re out…it’s just a yucky feeling.

All in all, it was really fun and I came out smiling (and rubbing my feet)! I’m not scared to go back in tomorrow, and I know by Sunday I’ll have it down. Free-lancing is perfect for me, because it’s fun for a few days…a few times per year :-) but it is hard work!

Now I know why artists that get to work in the stores have to first put in their dues at a counter! ;-)

Kitty Kouture: MAC + Hello Kitty

I love the idea of a MAC Hello Kitty collection. Some of the stuff I can’t wait for (pigments, Beauty Powder Blushes, and a few lippies maybe), some of it I’m not sure about yet (the lip stuff and accessories), and some of it I already know I’m going to pass on (the eyeshadows, nail polish, some of the accessories).

BUT as soon as I saw the picture for the Kitty Kouture collection (launching March 5th), I was sooooo excited! These 3 things I WILL be getting for sure! Woot!

Why it Takes 2 Hours

Like any girl who takes a long time to get ready, I have many steps in my regime. Most people don’t get it, but that’s ok because I do what makes me happy. And really, if makeup is my hobby, the only time I really get to dive into it is in the morning when I’m getting ready.

Keep reading for a list of my steps  to get ready… Read the rest of this entry »
