Review & Swatches: Sugarpill Cosmetics

Well HELLO gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! This was a much anticipated haul. After seeing some outstanding reviews of this indie brand called Sugarpill, I had to check it out. Oh it is sooooooo flipping worth every penny. Amy, the maker of the brand, is a goddess. Seriously. How did she make these colors?! She’s a super sweetheart and she really stands behind her products (vegan btw). Now I’m a girl who knows her shadows. These go at the top of my list. Best ever. My only complaint is that there aren’t more colors for me to invest in LOL!!

OMG everything about this line is sexy. The boxes are sexy. The website where I ordered it all from is sexy. The packaging is sexy. The names are sexy. The colors….blow. my. mind.

My order came in a beautiful box stamped with the oh-so-cute Sugarpill logo (cute kitteh!).

Everything was wrapped in hot pink paper and there was even a little note hand singed by Amy!

See the palettes and swatches of the pigments!!!   Read the rest of this entry »

Award: Versatile Blogger

Jbrobeck of Polish Insomniac tagged me for this award! Thanks girl!!! :-) I’m gonna change the rules a little – I’ll give you 12 facts about myself, then tag 7 other blogs (instead of the other way around). So here it goes…

  1. When I was little I twirled the baton. I took lessons once a week from 4th grade through 8th grade, but I never practiced, so I wasn’t very good.
  2. I was a pretty good flute player. I made county and state bands, got top scores at solo and ensemble competitions, and was 1st chair in my school band.
  3. Speaking of band, I was drum major of my high school marching band junior and senior year. I was the queen of marching! Band was a huge part of my life – I even met my husband in the UCLA marching band in 2001 :-)
  4. I’m a Mathematician, but my mental math is not great. I can easily integrate functions in my head though!
  5. As you probably noticed in my makeup shots, I have a birthmark under my left eye. For every person who tries to tell me that I have makeup or mascara smudged under my eye, then feels stupid when I point out that it’s my birthmark, I wonder how many others think that but don’t say anything. Kinda makes me sad, because I actually like my birthmark.
  6. I have no desire to have kids right now, but I love watching birthing shows and reality shows about raising kids. Strange huh?
  7. Middle school was one of the best times in my life (8th grade in particular). I was on the math team, in band, popular among my group of friends, had a boyfriend, and had some of the most genuine friends of my whole life, that I didn’t really discover again until college. The kind of friends you could talk to for hours on the phone. I miss that.
  8. You wouldn’t think it, but I’ve run the Los Angeles Marathon 3 times.
  9. I’ve never officially played a team sport. T-ball when I was 4 and too young to understand doesn’t count. I don’t like team sports. I don’t like other people having to count on my physical abilities. I can’t deal with that pressure of letting people down…I’m way too hard on myself.
  10. I was the valedictorian of my high school class of 1999. I never got anything lower than an A-.
  11. I really dislike reading. Honestly. Even if it’s something good. If an article or blog post even, is too long, I’ll end up giving up, and skipping to the pictures. I only read books if I’m forced (for school or something). People think it’s weird, but I love doing math – no really, LOVE. How many people do you know who would do math if they didn’t like it? none. I don’t like to read, so I don’t do a lot of it. Get it?
  12. I’ve never been pulled over by a cop, nor have I ever had a cavity (as of today). Let’s hope my luck holds up.

Ok, at first that was difficult, but now I could think of more interesting things. :-) So that was fun! I tag the following blogs:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Yep, one year ago today (on the very first day of 2009), I wrote my first post on This isn’t a large blog, but I really enjoy running it and can only hope for bigger and better things to come for us in 2010. Though I will be busy when school starts again, please know that I will not be too far away. So far, I’ve done 250+ posts, probably 95% of which were actual looks!

First, I want to thank you so much for reading, watching, lurking, and commenting. Each one of your page views and comments really mean a lot to me…so even if you can’t find another way to say it, keep on saying it, because I love it! Over the past year I got two Z-Palettes to test for free, but everything else is bought by my hard earned money. I do this blog for me, and now also for you, my dear readers :-) Thanks for all of your encouragement and feedback.

I wish that I had something to give away…and maybe someday soon I will…but in the mean time, please help me celebrate by doing one thing: Leave a comment telling me 1. Which Coloruza look is your favorite, and 2. What else (looks or otherwise) you’d like to see on Coloruza in 2010.

Thanks to everyone! Happy 2010!!!

Look: Girlish Romp Epic Fail!

I love my MAC, and everyone who knows me knows that, but this Girlish Romp MES quad was a complete and utter epic FAIL! Wow, I did my eyes using those 4 colors and I swear I looked like a zombie or dead or something. It was really bad. I’ll completely admit that there are looks that I do that I’m not so happy with, or that I think just aren’t very good…def. not worth doing again, but I rarely feel that they were a complete failure…here you go! I think I’m going to leave this post “Uncategorized” so it won’t show up if people were to do searches by color or brand.

The colors are like washes…seriously NO pigmentation. I really got it for that awesome looking golden white because I could see it as an amazing highlight…nope. Not even that one was worth it. I had to go over every one of those colors with some stronger colors, but that still didn’t seem to save me. Anyway, here is my failure of a look. :-( This item will be going back to the store VERY soon…

Girlish Romp Total Fail Look (16)

Girlish Romp Total Fail Look (4)

For this look I used (but wished I didn’t):

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Painterly PP (base), Girlish Romp MES quad, then I tried to fix it with: Rule (inner lid), Parfait Amour (middle lid), Heritage Rouge Pigment (outer lid & crease), Smolder (liner – also a big mistake), Plushlash mascara
  • Cheeks: Daft Pink mineralized blush
  • Lips: Bobbi Brown Baby Peach Metalic lip colour

Twitter & Facebook: A Shameless Plug

I don’t have time to do a whole post tonight (sorry…maybe in the morning?), but I thought I’d do a shameless plug and ask you to join me on Twitter and Facebook! I’ve posted a lot of my favorite looks on Facebook, and I try to keep it updated as much as I can. Become a fan of Coloruza on Facebook!!! (There’s also a link on the right of this page…if you haven’t noticed haha!) And Twitter…well, it’s like being able to instant message with me sorta. I didn’t “get it” for a long time, but it’s really cool and I’m hooked now! Kelly from VampyVarnish recently did a post explaining all about Twitter and the benefits of joining (plus she’s doing a give-away!). I think she did a perfect job – better than I could. Heck, I already won a free nail polish just from being on Twitter, so it’s cool – join us (please) and stay updated! I promise it’ll be lots of fun! Love Ya!!

OMG My Hair is Gone!

Well, that’s exaggerating a lot, but it’s so short!! I pull it back to wash my face and it’s still everywhere because it doesn’t reach! I went to Avena to get it cut last week, and I like them because you get more for the price like a scalp massage, beverage, long hair wash. I had this really tall guy who was really nice, but he kept cutting…and cutting…and cutting…! The cutting went on for it had to be more than 20 minutes!  I’m kinda shy when it comes to hair people, so I didn’t say anything. I told him I just wanted a trim and that I liked the length…but maybe he didn’t. I don’t know, I just kept telling myself that he knows what he’s doing. He blow dried it out and fixed my bangs funny (well, funny to me), so I went home and took pictures to see how it really changed my look…and boy does it! Unfortunately, I don’t think it changes it for the better :-( Saddies!

The look in this picture is the Navy & Lighter Shades look that I did a tutorial for.  There are 5 more pictures if you’d like to see the damage…  Read the rest of this entry »

Coloruza in Hawaii!

Hello my dear readers! Sorry for not posting yesterday or today. I spent literally all day today flying to get here (Kauai). It’s been insane…but I made it and my makeup did too, so here’s hoping it’s going to be a great…non-stressful week! Traveling in general tends to stress me out, and this is not really like what I was expecting…so…we’ll see what happens. I’ll do my best to keep posting looks as I can, but right now it’s midnight according to my body which has been awake since 5am so I’m gonna try to sleep for now. Aloha and mahalo! :-)

Look: My HG Red Lipstick!!

I can officially say that I have found my HG (holy grail) red lipstick! Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Allure in either #17 or #18 are my red lipstick to end all red lipsticks. I’m pretty confident that I will not buy another red lipstick again (unless it is like magic or something). This stuff goes on like butter, stays on like a stain, and is moisturizing, smooth, vibrant…it doesn’t fade or clump or bleed into my lips. If you’re not convinced, then I urge you to go to your local YSL counter (Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman, or even Sephora!) and get them to try it on you. Then go the rest of the day or night, or just shopping trip and take a look. You’ll be convinced and rush back to get it!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPPS (primer), Rubenesque PP (base), All That Glitters (inner lid), Expensive Pink (middle lid), Amber Lights (outer lid), Illusionary Burning Ambition Mineralized e/s (brown for crease, light gold for highlight), Orpheus Kohl Power (liner), Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: Bobbi Brown Flame Shimmer Blush
  • Lips: Brick l/l + YSL Rouge Allure l/s #18

Go see more pictures – you have to see close-ups of the lips!  Read the rest of this entry »

Heather’s on Temptalia!!!

Have I shared with you my obsession with all that is! I freaking LOVE that site and I check it sooooo many times a day. I aspire to be like Christine and for my site to someday be as wonderful as hers! I seriously don’t  know how she has the time to get all of that up…

Anyway, I wanted to share with you that I am featured in a Guest Look on Temptalia’s site! I’d LOVE it if you’d leave a comment for me there! It’s one of my looks that’s posted here as well – Gold, Orange & Pink is what I called it, but she changed the pink to brown, which I agree fits more. Go check out her site and my guest appearance! :-) Happy Wednesday!
