NOTD: Happy Valentine’s Day!

This was intended to be my pre-Valentine’s Day mani, but it’s stayed all the way until today, so I just might keep it…not sure yet. I really really like it :-) First time I’ve tried anything like this, and it came out really well. My nails look a lot nicer than they did the last time I posted pictures. Keeping them painted full time makes them a lot stronger.

So what are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Me? I’ll be celebrating turning 29 (yes, it’s my birthday) as well as V-Day with my wonderful husband! We’re going out for a nice dinner at The Lobster in Santa Monica tonight. I need to go get ready!

Look: Bobbi Brown Goes Green

You just can’t beat the silky smoothness of Bobbi Brown shadows. Buttery soft and so pigmented; they’re just amazing! The lipgellee on the other hand…it was brighter than it showed up in the pictures. I ended up returning it. It looks pretty with this look, but it didn’t wear well for me.

NOTD: Some Recent Polishings

As you may or may not know, I have recently become obsessed with nail polish. I have never had really nice nails. They’re very very bendy, weak, fragile, and they peel easily. I’ve never had to actually cut my nails since they’ve never grown long enough. But I have embraced my nubbins, and while they are far from the perfection that I see on some amazing nail blogs, they are at least polished :-) So I thought I’d share with you some of my Nails of the Day (NOTD) pictures. But beware – if you dive into the world of nail polish – there is no return!

Lippmann: Superstar

Gorgeous huh? Well, this was after a couple of days, as you can tell with the tip wear. It’s a brown base with copper glitter. This was two coats and no top coat. See a few more NOTD if you’d like!

Zoya: Zara

One of my favorite purples. It has beautiful shimmer that makes it look gold and pink in different lights. Stunning.

Rescue Beauty Lounge: Coral w/Icing: Teal polka dots topped with Hard Candy: Sugar Daddy

This was my very first attempt at polka dotting. It reminded me of watermelon or something. I really wasn’t happy with it. RBL Coral is a bright coral creme that leans very orange on me.

OPI: We’ll Always Have Paris + OPI: We’ll Always Have Paris Suede dots

Yep, they have the same name – one is the original creme version, and the other is a “suede” color. Both are beautiful colors, and I think this time my polka dotting when a little better. My clean up still needs work. I cannot find a good brush for it, but I keep trying.

Look: Kat Von D Metal Palette

Well, for this look, all I know for the shadows is that I used the ones from the Kat Von D Metal Palette. I never wrote down which ones, but luckily there is a limited amount in there. It’s very blue. Not sure if I like it that much, but here it is…

Look: Easy Browns for Stress

I did this look the week I started my masters program last semester, so needless to say, I was super stressed. I didn’t want to take that much time on my makeup, so I decided to do some easy browns. For me, it seems like browns are the easiest to work with, and they take me the least amount of time. And of course, like Denny would say, brown is always a winner!

For this look I used:

Look: Pink & Blue

This is a slightly older look that I forgot to post! I think this look is better in concept…the middle looks too gray I think. But the pink on the lid makes the look less bold, and blue tends to be quite bold. It’s a nice combo that didn’t come out looking purple. And oh, how I love frosty pink lips!!! :-)

Look: Chameleon

I call this one chameleon because that is what it looks like to me! It’s like it could change color depending on how you look at it…like a duochrome nail polish! It’s got greens and teals and golds… Whoa! I loved how it turned out :-)

Look: Notoriety w/ Some Glitz

For this look I used the MAC Notoriety Quad. I added some NARS Mediteranee and some Reflects Copper Glitter to make it more shimmery. Unfortunately I don’t think the camera picked up on the glitter much because it’s so fine. Oh well. I rarely use the reflects glitters and I thought it would be fun. I did this look on a Sunday when we were going to Roy’s for my sister-in-law’s birthday. It was very ME because it’s bright, colorful, and dramatic! :-)

My First Award Tag: Beautiful Blogger

Wow! My very first award tag: The Beautiful Blogger Award! I’m so honored :-) My new MUA blogging beauty friend MusicalHouses nominated me, which is so exciting! I have to post 7 random facts about myself…so here we go!

I grew up all over the place. I was born in Wichita, KS, moved to Birmingham, AL when I was 4, moved to Pleasanton, CA when I was 7, back to Birmingham when I was 9, to Tucson, AZ when I was 14, up to Sacramento, CA when I was 15, then down to LA for college when I was 18. I’ve been in the LA area ever since.
I hate to travel. Literally hate. I hate leaving my comfort zone, my stuff, and my house. I’m a total homebody! I feel no need to see the world or visit anywhere. I have been to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, and Israel though.
I’ve recently become a nail polish junkie! I have nearly enough polishes to wear two different ones every day of the year…and that doesn’t count making different colors by layering! I know. I am bad.
I hate to cook. I think I’m terrible at it (though my husband disagrees and says I’m just lazy, which might also be true). I pretty much never cook.
I ran the 20th, 21st, and 22nd LA Marathons. In addition, I’ve done 3 18-mile runs, 6 half marathons, and countless 10 and 5K races. Ahhh my running days… :-)
I was the valedictorian of the first graduating class at my high school. My transcript had no flaws: straight A’s from freshman through senior year (well, before freshman year too). My parents always told me to do my best, and I guess that was always A level work :-)
I play the flute and piccolo. I was in the band from 5th grade all the way through college. Though I don’t play regularly anymore, I used to be pretty good at it if I do say so myself :-) I played in honor bands and everything. I even met my husband in the UCLA marching band (he plays drums)!

Look: So Pretty I Forgot Mascara

Like I’ve said before, doing my mascara is my least favorite part of doing my makeup. Sometimes I procrastinate doing it by doing my hair first, getting dressed, or anything else first. This day my mind must have been distracted by something else because I completely forgot to go back and put on mascara. I realized my mistake half way to work :-( Oh well, I guess it was such a bold look that I didn’t notice! :-) What’s your least favorite step in your beauty routine?
