Nails: The Make Up Store Marcus

Oh lawd I cannot wait until my nails look like this again ;-) This polish holds a special place in my ♥. I got it while I was in Costa Rica in August at this place called the Makeup Store. So many polishes there…but I tried to only pick up “unique” colors that I didn’t already have. I’m a total sucker for Tiffany blues, so I picked up this teal/turquoise/aqua color called Marcus as one of the two that I got (yes, I only got two…are you proud?).

Now it just so happens that THIS color matched perfectly to the color that my friend’s Costa Rica bungalow is decorated in. She has tons of accessories this color, and I couldn’t help but take some pictures using some of them as props (hence the candle and pillow). Pretty neat huh? This is two coats, and it was flawless and beautiful! LOVE!

Nails: New York Amaranth

I LOVE JELLIES!!! Jelly finishes in polish are so beautiful! This is a teal-ish green polish named Amaranth from New York. I think I got this one from Cherrycouture.com or something like that…it was a long time ago. This is 3 coats plus a top coat. It’s beautiful and squishy looking. My nails are not in the best shape here, and this must be after a few days of wear since I see some tip wear. I have a bad habit of not taking nail pics immediately after a manicure, which means I have tip wear in many of them. I’ll be better in 2011 (promise)!

Swatches: Evil Shades

It took a while for me to dive in to Evil Shades cosmetics, but I’m so glad I did. I only ordered eyeshadows, but Evil Shades sells everything from cuticle balm to amazing (and best known for) lip colors. To tell you the truth, these shadows shocked me, in a good way! The jars were a little messy and the stickers on the inside were difficult to peel off, but the shadows themselves are really top notch. Even Devil’s Bonfire which looks to have chunky silver glitter in it…I was expecting it to be, well, chunky and not blendable, but boy was I wrong! Every one of these shadows is incredibly smooth and finely milled. Color me impressed! Seriously. I can’t even pick a favorite. I really love them all. Drakon and Cerberus are so complex and beautiful. Oh, and Dryad, Wonderflower, and Nixies are all amazing too. Andrea, the girl behind the genius of these shadows, has something really great going here. She’s a sweetheart on Twitter, and I first discovered her through the MUA Nail Board. Her nails are to die for beautiful, and she loves polishes too! Woot! Anyway, on to swatches. I cannot wait to use these in some looks too!

Top Row: Drakon, Zombie, Cerberus
Bottom Row: Phyrra’s Fantasy, Moirae, Devil’s Bonfire

Swatches: High Voltage Inked Collection

Here are swatches of the amazing colors from the High Voltage Inked Collection (er, most of them). I couldn’t order all of them, but I picked my favorites. These colors are complex with multiple dimensions of shimmer. The glitter stands out heavily, and depending on how much they are rubbed in, the color can change slightly. All shadows are swatched using a q-tip over Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy.

Top Row: Art is Forever, Modified, Old Skool
Bottom Row: Mind & Body, State of Mind, Artistic Expression

Look: A High Voltage Look

This is a look done using mostly High Voltage Cosmetics loose eyeshadows. Jasmine is the owner and creator of this magnificent indie makeup company, and she is amazingly talented! I actually found out about her through Twitter, and I could not have met a sweeter, more beautiful lady! So to say that customer service is outstanding is an understatement. I’ve purchased many of her shadows (which I will post more swatches of soon), and a few of her lip whips (opaque lip glosses that are like silky lipsticks…amazing!). If she can pause creating all of these fabulous shimmery colors, I’ll try some of her matte shadows too, which I have heard are well above par. Her products are up in my top 4 (because I can’t pick a 5th yet) favorites from indie makeup companies (in no particular order): High Voltage, Fyrinnae, Sugarpill, Meow Cosmetics.

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: NARS Eyeshadow Primer, High Voltage Kiss of True Love (inner lid), High Voltage Fairy Blood (middle lid), High Voltage Heart Throb (wet – outer lid), MAC Green Brown pigment (crease), wash of MAC Old Gold pigment (whole lid), MAC Femme-Fi (highlight), Bobbie Brown Chocolate Shimmer Ink (liner), MAC Orpheus (waterline), MAC Haute & Naughty mascara
  • Cheeks: Lancome Mandarin Blush, MAC Truth and Light Magically Cool Liquid Powder
  • Lips: NARS Luster lipgloss

Look: Some New Corals

I had all of these new strange coral eyeshadow colors so I decided to combine them all. I say “strange” because corals are a difficult color to use on the eyes, at least for me. I find the same thing for really light or true pinks. Of all of the new eyeshadows I’ve bought lately, I think I’ve only gotten like 1 pink that doesn’t lean purple. :-)

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP Eden (primer), MAC Coral Crepe PP (base), MAC Tissueweight (inner lid), MAC Hot Hot Hot (middle lid), MAC Cut to Fit (outer lid), NARS Mekong (crease), MAC Teddy Kohl liner, Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: MAC Ripe Peach two-toned blush
  • Lips: MAC Pret-A-Papier lipgloss

Look: Eye Popping Green

Can you believe this look is from back in January?! And now it’s almost January again! Wow a year flies by so fast.  This is a great gold and green look (my favorite combo).

For this look I used:

  • Cheeks: Lancome Mandarin
  • Lips: NARS Sunset Strip l/g

Swatches: Fyrinnae Part II

See Part I here. This is one of my large Fyrinnae orders, and the second one I ever made (which was much more recently). The ones with the black circle lids are full sizes, and the clear ones are minis. I have to say, I really love the jars they have the full sized ones in. They are the only ones I have found that don’t let the pigment leak into the sides, which makes a mess when you open and close them. These stay nice and neat!

Read more for swatches! All of these are swatched with a q-tip over Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy. I took several pictures in different lighting and different angles of each set of swatches to make sure I captured as much of the depth of the shadows as I could. Any new lemmings? See any you LOVE?? Swatches: Fyrinnae Part I

These were my first ever Fyrinnae shadows. I got them several years ago…used a few, then stopped. I recently dug them all out and swatched them. I really didn’t like how they would get everywhere when you opened and closed the lids, but Fyrinnae’s full sized jars take care of that problem. Anyway, on to some swatches, eh?

These are all swatched dry first, then wet using MAC’s water based Mixing Medium.  And, as always, I took lots of pictures in different lighting so you could really see how some of these amazing colors shift (like Sorceress)!  Read the rest of this entry »

Nails: Essie Sew Psyched

Essie Sew Psyched is an army green color with light silver shimmer. I got many compliments – some wanting to know what the color was and where to get it! You know how there are two different types of compliments – ones that are just that, a nice gesture, and others that say something because they want to have it themselves? Really, I love either kind :-) Still…there was one or two people who definitely don’t care for the kakhi/army colors.
