Nails: OPI DS Glow

This color is quite epic. There are some who say that this would be the one polish they’d wear for the rest of time if they had to pick. But for me…not so much. It’s gold, and gold looks terrible with my skin tone when it comes to nail polish. I tried, but it’s just not my color. I haven’t found a color eyeshadow that doesn’t agree with me, and I figured it would be the same when I got into polish. Unfortunately gold, like yellow gold, does not love my fingers. Good thing my jewelry is white gold eh? Haha!

You may not be able to see the clash with my skin in these pictures, but it’s apparent in real life. Well, DS Glow is actually a gold that leans toward copper/rust. So it’s not terrible on me, but I probably won’t wear it again. What about you? Have you found a polish color that you just cannot pull off, no mater how much you love it in the bottle? Look: Kat Von D True Love Palette

It’s about time for a look, eh? I have to say that I really love the Kat Von D palettes. I have them all so far. There’s a new one out that I saw via Scrangie, and I’m super disappointed in it. I won’t be buying that one - 3 creme shadows (the quality of the creme shadows are terrible)?! Ugh. Ah well, I just ordered the new UD Naked palette, so I can’t WAIT to try that one out. I’ve heard so many good things…ok I’m off topic now.

The KVD shadows are of excellent quality in my opinion. They are soft, “buttery”, and have awesome pigmentation. If you haven’t tried them out, you really should. Head on over to Sephora and see which colors suit you best.

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Yaby white & purple PP (base), Kat Von D True Love Palette: Missy (inner lid), Shiba (middle & outer lid), Cholita (crease), Missy (highlight), Penultimate liner, Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: Laura Geller Pink Grapefruit
  • Lips: Guerlain Kiss Kiss Gloss #866

Nails: Massini Slamming Red

Recently, my husband and I took a mini vacation to Disneyland and California Adventure. We had so much fun that we decided to get season passes! Anyway, so I knew we’d be out in the sun all day, and what better time to pull out a super sparkle polish?! I was fortunate enough to get this along with Purple Medallion from the very sweet Mary at Body and Soul.

Massini Slamming Red (4)

Look at that holo!!!!! And guess what?! This is ONE COAT! No kidding. It’s a little messy because I did my nails on the ground as we waited outside for the park to open. It was amazing sparkle all day, and I loved looking at my nails. The sparkle doesn’t translate to the nail in this picture very well, but it’s there for sure!

Massini Slamming Red (3)

I did one coat of topcoat, but the polish is definitely bumpy. Totally worth it though - the texture doesn’t bother me at all anyway. I took these pictures in the afternoon right outside the wine tasting exhibit inside Disney’s CA Advanture :-) You have to see some more pics of this beauty!

Nails: Illamasqua Phallic

Illamasqua is an amazing brand. I loooooove their formula. This could have been a one-coater, but I went for two as per usual. Phallic is an interesting name, eh? Illamasqua has some interesting names for sure. ;-) This color is beautiful with the flash picture and in the sun, but otherwise in the shade it is very dark, nearly black looking.

Illamasqua Phallic (2)

Sorry for the tip wear. This was two days later. Awwww my nails are little nubbins :-) It is an incredibly pretty vampy blue. What do you think?

Nails: Essie Lapis of Luxury

This is a gorgeous color from Essie, called Lapis of Luxury. It’s a little brighter than a robin’s egg blue, but it’s not as bright as some of these pictures make it seem. It’s a little dustier than it looks in these pics. I like it, but I don’t love it on me. When I wore it someone made a comment about how I’m lucky that I can pull off such “wild” colors. This is wild?! Um ok :-)

Essie Lapis of Luxury (3)

See more pictures - there are some in the shade that are more true to color.

Nails: Duri Don’t Kiss and Tell

This is a new (to me) brand that I recently acquired a few colors from. I saw swatches of their newest collection over at Vampy Varnish, and Kelly was so sweet to let me know where I could find them. This is a very interesting…yet deceiving orange…

Duri Don't Kiss and Tell (5)

Ok I admit, I took lots of pictures of this one. And it’s not because it’s so incredibly beautiful, well, not in real life anyway. See that gold shimmer? Well, it’s there, but only when the flash goes off. Otherwise, in real life, it’s just an orange polish. I got it because I fell in love with the pictures of it. Yeah, so the pictures of this one are deceiving!

It’s different in different lights. The orange also made my camera wig out a little, so sorry about that. Check out all these pictures! Read the rest of this entry »

Nails: Nubar Jewel & Prize

Here are a few holos for you to drool over :-) Nubar is one of my favorite brands. They have great themes and execute colors wonderfully. In their collection of holos, there were scattered holos as well as linear ones. Below is Nubar Jewel. It’s a scattered holo (with scattered bits of holographic glitter) with a taupy-brown base. It’s neutral enough, but still has a little bit of a wild side. This is two coats.

Nubar Jewel (3)

Another one from the same collection is Nubar Prize. It was originally thought to be a red holo, but it is far from red on my skin tone. It’s very obviously magenta-pink, and oh so pretty. However, it’s not all that unique. Prize is also a scattered holo, and this is two coats.

I’ve got some more pictures of both ahead! Read the rest of this entry »

Nails: Vintage Misa - Dangerous Sapphire

Every vintage Misa I own is thanks to a wonderful lady named Carly (hotmetalchicky) in the UK ! I found her on Ebay, and this time it wasn’t so evil. She had polishes that were at the top of my wish list for sale, and I jumped at the chance!! We became MUA friends and even did a little swap :-) Take a look at this beauty.

Misa Dangerous Sapphire (11)

See that subtle pink shimmer? It barely translates to the nail, but it’s there. What a unique blue color! It’s dusty, nearly teal, and stunning!

See how the bottle cap is white? I love that it looks different. And the name of the polish is on the back, not the bottom. You have to see more pictures! Read the rest of this entry »

Nails: Claire’s Dream Catcher

Yep, you read that right, it’s from Claire’s (as in the teeny-bopper earring store). They make some great polishes, and this one is a beauty! It got crazy attention when it came out as being a “dupe” for Chanel Jade. Unfortunately, Chanel Jade came out right before my nail polish craze, so I didn’t get a chance to buy it, and it is not worth the money it’s going for on the bay of evil. This dupe is great!

Claire's Dream Catcher (3)

It’s a beautiful minty green with ever so slight shimmer. The shimmer is really really subtle and barely visible in direct light. As far as minty colors go, this one is on the greener side compared to others. I’m pretty sure I did 2 coats for this polish.

Claire's Dream Catcher (7)

I don’t know why it looks like it gives me “lobster claws” (my fingers look red) because it didn’t look like that in real life. Must be my camera. Oh the battles I fight with my camera *sigh*. Well, the polish is awesome, so see some more pictures! Read the rest of this entry »

Look: Shady Lady Amazing!

The last time I did a haul at Sephora, I came across this small square palette. It’s called the Shady Lady palette. Now, if you know me, you know that I’m somewhat of a makeup snob. I stick to brands I know and rarely branch out. Something compelled me to swatch these beauties, and they are so buttery soft, so well pigmented, *sigh* I just had to buy them. It was a palette, and around $30, so I felt it was a score. I’ve used every color and never looked back :-)

Shady Lady Amazing (17)

I’ve used this palette so many times, and I love the color variety! This is the original palette, but it looks like Volume 2 is out now at Sephora. If you’re looking for an awesome quick-look-and-go palette, this does NOT disappoint. And this is coming from me, and I’m verrrrrry particular about my shadows :-)

Now on to the look. This is one of a few I’ve made with this lovely palette. It was back in January, so I’m still dressed for cold weather :-)

Shady Lady Amazing (15)

Shady Lady Amazing (2)

Hehe…that’s my big fuzzy sweater!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPPS (primer), Shady Lady Palette: jet-setting jennifer (inner & middle lid), shameless-shana (middle & outer lid), caught-in-the-act-courtney (crease), Femme Fi (highlight), Bobbi Brown Chocolate Shimmer Ink, Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: Cheeky Bronze MSF
  • Lips: Lancome Neutral Current lipgloss
