Look: Chanel Mystic Eyes Quad with Guerlain Lips

I needed to do something quick before we went to our weekly bowling leage (yes, I’m on a bowling league with my hubby, but it’s not as bad as you think hehe). Quads are simple for me. I really like how easy they are because the four colors I’m going to use are all laid out for me - no hassle of picking out colors and finding them, etc.

Sadly, this particular quad doesn’t impress me like the Beiges de Chanel Quad did/does (I’m still loving it everytime I use it!). The Mystic Eyes Quad just came out with Chanel’s Bohemian launch for Spring 2009, and I picked it up at Nordstrom just before Christmas. For some reason it struck me as purple-ish when I first saw it. But it really looks kinda muted gray and brown on me, so I added a brighter purple liner to try to make the color pop and stand out a little more. The center lid color being brown kills the overall look IMO and I wish the crease color were more purple. So after using it twice now, I’m still undecided whether or not I’ll keep it or put it in the return to Nordstrom bag (don’t worry - I hardly EVER return things, and if I do it’s always for good reason). Let me know what you think of it! Perhaps you can sway my decision :-)

Look: Blue and White Smokey Eyes

Tonight I’m off to a dinner party for my best friend who’s in town from New York for a little while. This is the look I’m wearing. It looks a little better in person than it comes out in the pictures - it’s got more dimension than it shows. I’ll admit it’s a little OTT, but that’s just me :-) Anyway, the lips were inspired by a recent post from Temptalia   where she shows lots of lip pictures, and it reminded me how much I love this lipstick!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP as a primer and Delft Paint Pot as a base. Vellum on the inner lid, Crystal Avalanche on the middle center lid, Climate Blue on the upper part of the middle lid, Deep Truth in the outer crease, a touch of Freshwater in the crease, and Solar White to highlight the brow. For liner I used Penultimate liner on the upper lashline, UD 24/7 in Deviant on the lower lashline, and Mystery Kohl Power on my waterline. Finished the eye with Buxom Lash Mascara.
  • Cheeks: Pleasantry Mineralize Blush and Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Orchid Mosaic
  • Lips: Sci-Fidelity lipstick topped with Soft & Slow lipglass

Look: Dark Soul with Highlights for New Year’s Eve

This was my New Year’s 2008 look. It came out nice and I was really happy with it.

Here’s what I used:

  • Eyes: Dark Soul pigment (with Mixing Medium) as a base all over lid. Vellum on inner lid, Knight Devine on middle lid, Beauty Marked on outer lid, and some Sketch in the crease. I used Crystal Avalanche to highlight the brow bone. UD 24/7 eye pencil in Zero is what I used for my liner, and finished with MAC’s Plushlash mascara.

  • Cheeks: NARS blush in Madly and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Beige as a shimmer/highlight
  • Lips: MAC’s Monogram lipstick in Marque and Guerlain KissKiss Pearl Gloss in Champagne Pearl 847.

Why it Takes 2 Hours

Like any girl who takes a long time to get ready, I have many steps in my regime. Most people don’t get it, but that’s ok because I do what makes me happy. And really, if makeup is my hobby, the only time I really get to dive into it is in the morning when I’m getting ready.

Keep reading for a list of my steps to get ready… Read the rest of this entry »

But Is She Qualified?

If you’re a reader who doesn’t know me, then you’re probably wondering what makes me qualified to have a makeup blog, and what do I have to offer so that you’ll return to read it. So I’ll offer you a quick run-down of what I consider my qualifications.

I’ve been a makeup lover and collector since high school. My best friend at the time introduced me to big time department store brands, and I quickly jumped head first into my first major brand: Lorac. My friend would always tell me that your face is the first thing people see when they meet you, and the one thing they’ll remember, not the tags on your clothes, so put some money into your face. Plus, it’s the only face you’ll ever have. I’ve never forgotten that, and makeup became my passion.

Let me start by saying that I have a ridiculously large amount of makeup…yes, probably one of the biggest collections you’ve ever seen. I fully admit to being a makeup addict/collector. It’s my passion and pretty much my only significant hobby. I’ll be posting pictures of my collection once I get it reorganized from the holidays (I had to pick and choose what I took with me which was HARD!).

Now, as far as application goes…I’m well practiced. I get up at least 2 hours before I have to be anywhere (including work, which meant 4:30 some days!) so that I can do a full makeup application. I do full eyes with at least 4-6 colors usually. I haven’t had as much practice on other people as I’d like, but I’m working on it. About two months ago (Halloween ‘08) I was hired to be a freelance/on-call makeup artist for MAC. Though I have not had a call yet, I am hopeful that I’ll get at least a few this year and it’ll make me a better artist.

Overall, I’m a very picky girl. I know what I like and what I don’t. I LOVE makeup and am willing to try lots of different kinds. So keep up with me and you’ll get to see some great looks (OTT and natural kinds), honest reviews, and other crazy ramblings. So stay tuned!!!

Kissable Red Christmas Lips c/o Chanel

I did a neutral eyes with dark lips combo for Christmas Day. I usually hate doing red lips because while I know they look stellar, they only seem to look that way for maybe an hour, then it either fades or bleeds or leaves that aweful ring around my lips, etc. This one seemed to do really well though, and I was happy with how much it dressed up my overall look.

I used Chanel lipstick in Perplex and Chanel Glossimer in Red Shine to top it off.

Welcome!

Hi and welcome to Coloruza.com! My name is Heather Karuza and this is my makeup blog. I welcome all constructive comments and suggestions.

The purpose of this blog is to post and archive many of my makeup looks. I will also show swatches in addition to my own reviews of many makeup products.

It will be quite obvious that my #1 brand is MAC. However, I have been delving into other great brands lately like Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Guerlain, Bare Escentuals, NARS, Dior, CK, and my long time favorite Chanel. There are a few others I like too, but those are my favorites!
