NOTD: OPI Absolutely Alice

Here is another “Go Bruins” color for you! It’s a fabulous glitter of mostly blue with a hint of gold. It really rocked my world for a couple of days. The sparkle is crazy beautiful! Absolutely Alice is a color from the OPI Alice in Wonderland collection that came out early this year in honor of Tim Burton’s remake of the Disney classic. I did go see the movie, and I actually really enjoyed it. I think there was even a line that said “absolutely Alice” in there somewhere. Two coats of this and it dried so nicely! I did put a top coat on it, and it made it a pretty smooth (not like a creme or anything), but not too gritty. The texture really doesn’t bother me either way though.

This is such a gorgeous jewel tone blue. I seriously love it - and the gold is sparse, which gives it dimension more than anything. This one was with a flash, and the one below was in the sun. You can really see the gold in the bottle; it does transfer onto the nail the same, but the sun kinda washes it out in the picture.

So how many ways can I show you this polish? Um…you’ll have to keep reading to find out! LOL!!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: OPI Reflecting Pool

I almost feel kinda bad showing you this color. It was a European exclusive, and I don’t know if it’s even available there anymore. I got this bottle off of ebay with birthday money from my in-laws :-) (yes, it was a little pricey). It almost reminds me of a pastel version of Absolutely Alice (which I have also to post, and maybe I’ll do that tomorrow). There are pastel blue and gold shimmer sparkles. Yay - Bruin colors!

I don’t know if it was the formula or what, but this wore like iron on me. I eventually had to take it off and change to another color even though there were little to no chips. It’s an amazing polish!

I’ve got lots more where that came from. See more pictures! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: NARS Purple Rain

These posts have been a little old, and must have been before I got my proper clean-up brush. So, pardon the frazzle…sorry. This color was a pretty big deal. It has one of those glow from within qualities. To tell the truth, I was much more impressed with it inside the bottle. It is royal purple, jewel toned really, with pink and blue shimmer.

NARS Purple Rain (3)

Sure, it looks supurb with the flash, but it just didn’t do it for me in the shade or in normal light. It’s pretty and all, but I really like Illamasqua’s deep purple color more…can’t remember the name right now. There are polishes I wear sometimes and don’t get pictures of…so I need to rewear that one and get a good pic. You might still be able to find it at Nordstrom or on the NARS website. Anyway, if you like this polish, see some more pictures! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: Chanel Black Velvet w/ Illusion D’Or

Recently Chanel released 3 limited edition polishes. Black Velvet was advertised as a matte, but from swatches on other blogs, it looked very velvet and squishy-like. So I thought I would give it a try. It did NOT play nice with the flaws on my nails, so I did not take pictures of it on its own. So of course I layered it with the other (much more coveted) limited edition Chanel Illusion D’Or. It’s a golden glitter top coat with sparce large pieces of bule glitter thrown in. It’s gorgeous. Definitely for layering, though.

Can you see the little blue flakes? There are some more pics below that show it better - keep reading! It’s pretty, and I should try layering it over some other colors too. Sorry for the frazzle (lack of clean-up around the edges and cuticles). This wasn’t my best work by any means :-) See some more pictures!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: OPI DS Glamour

First, I want to welcome any new followers or anyone new to my blog! WELCOME!! I’ve had this for about a year and a half, but over the past 9 months or so I’ve been a little MIA because of my masters program. That is now DONE! So the posts and swatches will be flowing now! :-) When I get to big numbers of followers, I’ll do give-aways too! So stay tuned!

Ok, so if you know me, you know that my favorite types of polishes are: #1. Duochromes, #2. Holos, and #3. Flakies. I am a complete girly girl - I love anything that sparkles and shimmers!!! However, I do not discriminate - I love shimmers and can get mesmerized by a good creme too. Of course, those are not all of the finishes out there…glitters, sheers, jellies (love), metallics, foils, pearls, frosts, and then some. Today’s post is a holo.

OPI DS Glamour (5)

This is two coats of OPI DS Glamour with a top coat. Back then when I did his mani, I used Seche Vite (SV), which I realized caused major shrinkage! It looks like I have tip wear, but I don’t! The blue holo in this one is to die for - it’s like royal blue with rainbows! It’s so blue, it’s nearly blurple. I seriously love this color! C’mon, you know you want to see a few more pics!! NOTD & KOTD: OPI Jade is the New Black

From the OPI Hong Kong collection comes one of the best colors: Jade is the New Black. It’s a dusty green creme which is stunning on.

OPI Jade is the New Black (3)

This is two coats, but it would have even been ok with one thick one.

OPI Jade is the New Black (5)

Then after a day or two, I wanted to make it even better, so I added a Konad to it. I used Nubar Reclaim which is a green holo. So it’s a subtle Konad, but I really liked how it turned out!

Of course, I have tons more pictures to show you - so read on to see more! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: Misa It’s Electric w/ Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure

Hidden Treasure by Sally Hansen (mostly found at Walgreens and Walmart right now), really is a treasure. It makes lots of polishes come alive in a completely different way. It’s considered a “flakey” with flake pieces. This polish is a clear base, so it’s great over any color.

Misa It's Electric with Hidden Treasure (8)

I’m holding Misa It’s Electric, and I used two coats of that as a base color. On top is one thick coat of Hidden Treasure. Isn’t it neat?! Like a rainbow in a bottle! These pictures were taken in the shade, where I think it shows its greatest colors. I also took these pictures *right* after I finished taking my 4-hour comprehensive exam for my MA. I got official notice this past Monday that I passed! Yay! Time to celebrate!!

NOTD: Maybelline Vanishing Venus

Well hellooooooo beautiful!!! The minute I saw this polish on MeganChair’s blog, I knew I had to make it mine. You should know that I am absolutely obsessed with duochrome anything, especially polishes. This color is nothing short of amazing. Behold!!!!

Vanishing Venus (6)

Vanishing Venus (13)

Purple with green shimmer duochrome. The purple is so deep, in some lights it looks a little brownish. Ah-MAZE-ing! It’s a long discontinued polish, but I got it in a swap. I can’t even remember what I swapped away for it…yep, it was that worth it! You gotta see more pictures!!!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: Nfu Oh #63

When I first got into nail polish, these are the kinds that really HOOKED me into wild and amazing colors. Who knew this was even possible?! These are called holographic polishes, or holo for short. I guess it’s really fine glitter or something, but in the sun, these look like moving rainbows on your nails. And no one does holos like Nfu Oh (pronounced N-foo-oh), a Korean-based polish company, only available through Fabuloustreet.com (free shipping in the US). Pricey at $12 per bottle, but worth every penny.

Nfu Oh #63 (5)

Nfu Oh #63 (8)

These pictures are taken with the flash. You’ll have to read on to see it’s true glory in a sun picture!!! Oh…and I didn’t take a specific bottle picture, but these are some of the most beautiful bottles out there. It’s like the bodess of a dress…with corsette/bustier and all! Nfu Oh polishes don’t have names, only numbers. This happens to be #63, which is a pink based holo. See more gorgeousness!!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: NYX Jungle

I don’t really do “swatches” because I just think the time involved to take off that much polish will seriously hinder my desire to do my nails. I just do regular old manicures - base coat (ridge filler & strengthener), 2-3 coats of color, quick-dry top coat. Then however long that lasts is how long until I take it off. I can’t stand chips, so after I see a chip, the color comes off in about a day. Yes, this means I do my nails as much as 3-7 times per week. Usually around 3 or 4, but sometimes more depending on the quality of the polish and the state of my nails.

Although, I must say that I REALLY want to start doing swatches, just so I can get out there in the nail blogging world. Don’t worry - I still do my makeup everyday, so I will have plenty of Looks to post too (if that’s what floats your boat) :-) I haven’t taken pictures of myself in a while though, and this admin program has not been nice to me, so I may not look as pleasant as you remember… But only 3 weeks left! Then I’m DONE!!! Can’t wait!! Ok…on to some pics…

Holy crap batman! This is one amazingly awesome polish to look at!

NYX Jungle (4)

Is it blue? Is it green? It’s like the color of clear ocean water - the kind you look at and think “that’s the most beautiful water in the world…can you believe how beautiful it is?” This was 3 coats. I love the shimmer and the duochrome. It really flashes blue, teal, and green depending on the angle. There’s still some VNL (visible nail line), but it looks so pretty, who cares?! Come on…you know you want to see more pictures!!! Read the rest of this entry »
