NOTD & KOTD: OPI Jade is the New Black

From the OPI Hong Kong collection comes one of the best colors: Jade is the New Black. It’s a dusty green creme which is stunning on.

OPI Jade is the New Black (3)

This is two coats, but it would have even been ok with one thick one.

Then after a day or two, I wanted to make it even better, so I added a Konad to it. I used Nubar Reclaim which is a green holo. So it’s a subtle Konad, but I really liked how it turned out!

NOTD: Misa It’s Electric w/ Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure

Hidden Treasure by Sally Hansen (mostly found at Walgreens and Walmart right now), really is a treasure. It makes lots of polishes come alive in a completely different way. It’s considered a “flakey” with flake pieces. This polish is a clear base, so it’s great over any color.

Misa It's Electric with Hidden Treasure (8)

I’m holding Misa It’s Electric, and I used two coats of that as a base color. On top is one thick coat of Hidden Treasure. Isn’t it neat?! Like a rainbow in a bottle! These pictures were taken in the shade, where I think it shows its greatest colors. I also took these pictures *right* after I finished taking my 4-hour comprehensive exam for my MA. I got official notice this past Monday that I passed! Yay! Time to celebrate!!

NOTD: Maybelline Vanishing Venus

Well hellooooooo beautiful!!! The minute I saw this polish on MeganChair’s blog, I knew I had to make it mine. You should know that I am absolutely obsessed with duochrome anything, especially polishes. This color is nothing short of amazing. Behold!!!!

Vanishing Venus (6)

Vanishing Venus (13)

Purple with green shimmer duochrome. The purple is so deep, in some lights it looks a little brownish. Ah-MAZE-ing! It’s a long discontinued polish, but I got it in a swap. I can’t even remember what I swapped away for it…yep, it was that worth it! You gotta see more pictures!!!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: Nfu Oh #63

When I first got into nail polish, these are the kinds that really HOOKED me into wild and amazing colors. Who knew this was even possible?! These are called holographic polishes, or holo for short. I guess it’s really fine glitter or something, but in the sun, these look like moving rainbows on your nails. And no one does holos like Nfu Oh (pronounced N-foo-oh), a Korean-based polish company, only available through Fabuloustreet.com (free shipping in the US). Pricey at $12 per bottle, but worth every penny.

These pictures are taken with the flash. You’ll have to read on to see it’s true glory in a sun picture!!! Oh…and I didn’t take a specific bottle picture, but these are some of the most beautiful bottles out there. It’s like the bodess of a dress…with corsette/bustier and all! Nfu Oh polishes don’t have names, only numbers. This happens to be #63, which is a pink based holo. See more gorgeousness!!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: NYX Jungle

I don’t really do “swatches” because I just think the time involved to take off that much polish will seriously hinder my desire to do my nails. I just do regular old manicures - base coat (ridge filler & strengthener), 2-3 coats of color, quick-dry top coat. Then however long that lasts is how long until I take it off. I can’t stand chips, so after I see a chip, the color comes off in about a day. Yes, this means I do my nails as much as 3-7 times per week. Usually around 3 or 4, but sometimes more depending on the quality of the polish and the state of my nails.

Although, I must say that I REALLY want to start doing swatches, just so I can get out there in the nail blogging world. Don’t worry - I still do my makeup everyday, so I will have plenty of Looks to post too (if that’s what floats your boat) :-) I haven’t taken pictures of myself in a while though, and this admin program has not been nice to me, so I may not look as pleasant as you remember… But only 3 weeks left! Then I’m DONE!!! Can’t wait!! Ok…on to some pics…

Holy crap batman! This is one amazingly awesome polish to look at!

NYX Jungle (4)

Is it blue? Is it green? It’s like the color of clear ocean water - the kind you look at and think “that’s the most beautiful water in the world…can you believe how beautiful it is?” This was 3 coats. I love the shimmer and the duochrome. It really flashes blue, teal, and green depending on the angle. There’s still some VNL (visible nail line), but it looks so pretty, who cares?! Come on…you know you want to see more pictures!!! Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: Chanel Nouvelle Vague

This is a great Tiffany blue-type color. It has a subtle shimmer, and the formula was really great. I think it’s such a beautiful color! Love this!

Look: Ode to Scrangie

I follow a LOT of nail polish blogs, and I love all of them, but my favorite one has to be Scrangie. Her nails are so perfect (all really btw) that I think my jaw hit the floor when I saw her nails for the first time. She creates hard core lemmings for EVEYRONE and can make ANY color look good! She is seriously one amaaaaaaazing nail blogger!!! Her honesty and commentary are genuine and often makes me lol!

Scrangie paired up with Rescue Beauty Lounge (RBL) to create her own nail polish shade (called Scrangie), and it is so so so so stunning (click on the link to see one of her swatches). The color has been sold out for a little while, and was the first of the polish blogger colors to do so. Hers is a purple with loads of teal shimmer. One of my all-time favorite nail polish colors! Sooooo…..

I decided to do a look using eyeshadow inspired by that nail polish color. I have a great dark purple and teal color in my set of SMH shadows, and I basically just blended those together. What exactly the breakdown is, I’ll never remember because I didn’t write it down.

Scrangie Look (2)

Scrangie Look

See the purple AND teal shimmer? It’s certainly not as pretty as the polish, but I think it came out darn cool! In real life it looked more purple, but you know how cameras don’t like to pick up purple colors :-) I have a few more pics to show you if you want to see… Read the rest of this entry »

NOTD: Easter/Spring Mani!

Yes this is a late post as well. But I found out that the ladies in the counseling office at my school were talking some smack about how I haven’t posted lately. ;-P Haha, actually I was really happy they read my blog, and it got me off my lazy butt to post some more. Then some of our friends came over and mentioned how it’s been so long since I posted…I’m kinda shocked people are reading - why don’t you comment people?! :-)

So this post is for all of the fantastic, wonderful, helpful ladies (gents too perhaps) in the Counseling Office at Edison Middle School!

Easter Mani - Skittle Pastels (2)

I don’t actually celebrate Easter, but I used to as a kid because I grew up in a Presbyterian dominant home. On Easter Sunday, Jason and I went to my in-laws for Passover Seder actually. Anyway, these are some awesome pastels that I did a “skittles” mani with. We use the term skittles when you do each nail a different color. Then I stamped the nails with a medium gray Nubar color called Stronghold and a Konad plate. If you don’t know what Konad is - do a google search or look it up on Youtube to see some great tutorials. It’s really easy and so cute!

St. Patty’s Day Mani

I know I know…I’m WAY behind the times. I’m busy, yo! I swear, once this admin program is over in May, I will get right back to it. Ok, so even though it’s several weeks late, here is my St. Patrick’s Day manicure. I really love this holiday. I’m not Irish, but I love getting decked out in GREEN! You can bet my makeup was amazingly green too, and yes I have some pictures, but you’ll have to wait a little for me to get them up. I even drew a little shamrock on my cheek with a MAC liner pencil and put some Reflects Teal glitter on top :-) Over the top? Yes. Cute as hell? Yes. I took too many pictures because I thought it was so cool? Yes! Others thought I was nuts, but I loved it? Yes!

NOTD: Happy Valentine’s Day!

This was intended to be my pre-Valentine’s Day mani, but it’s stayed all the way until today, so I just might keep it…not sure yet. I really really like it :-) First time I’ve tried anything like this, and it came out really well. My nails look a lot nicer than they did the last time I posted pictures. Keeping them painted full time makes them a lot stronger.

Valentine's Day Mani 2010 (10)

Valentine's Day Mani 2010 (7)

So what are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Me? I’ll be celebrating turning 29 (yes, it’s my birthday) as well as V-Day with my wonderful husband! We’re going out for a nice dinner at The Lobster in Santa Monica tonight. I need to go get ready!
