Look: New Years Eve Dark Eyes

We went to a friend’s New Years party - it wasn’t wild or anything, but the dress code was “semi-formal,” so we got some nice clothes on and I decided to do a really dark eye look. It’s really a classic smokey, but ultra dark. So naturally, I did lighter on the lips. It was a good look for me because I felt sexy and confident, my lips were easy to reapply with or without a mirror, and I wasn’t self conscious about my lips fading while I drank, ate, talked, etc. The evening was a lot of fun!!

Look: NARS Essential Eyes Palette

This is a great palette if for no other reason than it has Galapagos and Thunderball :-) LOVE those colors!!! When I told the lady at the NARS counter that I wanted Galapagos, she said she didn’t have it and I must have shown visible signs of disappointment because she immediately said “but wait, I have THIS” and pulled out the Essential palette. Since I didn’t have any of the colors in it already and it had the color I wanted so badly, I thought SCORE! Has that ever happened to you?

I must have run out of space on my camera the day I did this look because there aren’t a lot of pictures…sorry about that.

Look: Matching with Orange

Orange can be a difficult color to match with. Since I got the NARS Mediteranee e/s duo, I wanted to wear it. So I chose a nice outfit with brown and decided to pair it with some brown shadows with gold highlights. I really like the end results. I know that orange eyeshadow can be a very bright color for some people to pull off, but if you can do it, I think you should!

Look: Bright…Like Sunshine!

This was a look I did using NARS Mekong and Galapogos…and it disturbs me that I cannot find my Mekong after the move :-( I’ll keep looking for it though. With all of the overcast spitting of rain we’ve been having, it’s nice to do a post that reminds me of the SoCal sunshine!

Look: Fashion Forward Navy…I’m back!

I don’t officially know if I have that many followers. I know of the few who are sweeties and leave comments, and those totally brighten my day :-) I’ve definitely been neglecting my blog and my makeup lately. I feel bad for doing so, but I just haven’t had the motivation to put in the time or energy to post, and I’m not sure why. Though, I have been so busy…it’s almost depressing. Not that I’m complaining or anything. My day job is seriously a 12+ hour day, and I used to bring the excess work home, no worries. But I also started my Masters in Educational Administration plus a credential that’s all going to be completed in one year. So I have class after work, two days per week until 10pm and copious amounts of reading and homework. Now juggling work and school is stressfull, but doable. Lots of people do it!

BUT, the greatest news is that my husband and I just bought our first house (ok, it’s a condo)!! 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1800 sq. ft. piece of realestate in southern California, and it’s all ours! :-) We’re extatic and love our new place, but moving is sooooooo hard and time consuming! Geez! So I’ve been so tired lately…oy. Anyway, I’m hoping to get back to my blog and hopefully start even doing some new tutorials. One of the spare bedrooms is my “office” where I’m converting my old desk into a makeup vanity :-) So exciting!!! In a few weeks, you’ll be seeing different backgrounds in my pictures! Anyway, if you’re still around, thanks for sticking with me…it means a lot!

Now on to the look…this one is back from mid August. It’s so easy, it’s almost laughable. But I usually bring the color up a lot higher than my crease because my eyes are naturally so hooded. For this look, I kept the color really tight around just my eyelid and around the lashline. It feels very fashion forward, and I know I’ve seen it in magazines before. I liked it a lot and enjoyed that it was different…refreshing :-)

Look: Minx & Teal

I’ve recently gotten into some Smashbox shadows, and I absolutely love them! The texture is buttery soft and smooth, the pigmentation is fantastic, and best of all, they are the same size as MAC so I can depot them! Genius! I’ve only picked up a few colors to start: two oranges (Flamingo & Torch), a yellow-tinted white highlight (Oyster), and this one: a taupe/purple-ish color called Minx. It’s a fantastic and fascinating color! Really, I have nothing like it…which as we know is hard to find. I thought I’d mix it up a little and add some teal to this look to match my shirt. :-)

Look: Cut the Crease Attempt #1

I’ve seen some online tutorials recently spotlighting looks that use a technique called “cutting the crease” where the color below the crease is drastically different from the one above, and they are not blended together. I did a crazy attempt. It’s wild, bold, and loud! I don’t expect that others would readily wear this look “out” but it’s something fun and different to look at :-) I don’t like it much, and I don’t really like the blush with this look either. Should have gone more pink I think.

Look: Pink + Blue…looks Purple?

Well duh, of course pink and blue blended together are going to look purple! Although I was impressed at how each color managed to stand on it’s own and not get completely muddied together. This look is quite bright and fun.
