Look: Dior Quint in Earth Reflection

dior-earth-reflection

Dior’s Irridescent quint shadow palettes are so beautiful to look at. Their textures are velvety and usually the color pay off is descent. I’d like it to be more, but I think the shadows themselves are just light in color overall. So I did a look using Dior’s Earth Reflection palette. It’s great for soft neutral looks! For me, the color was kinda boring brown, so I tried my best to make my eyes pop with the teal liner on the waterline.

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP (primer), Painterly Paint Pot (base), Dior quint in Earth Reflection, Mystery Kohl Power (upper lashline), UD 24/7 liner in Electric & Covet (layered), BE Buxom Lash mascara
  • Cheeks: Enough Said Beauty Powder Blush
  • Lips: Chanel Rose Rebelle

I’m in love with the lip color itself (a new lipstick). It’s from Chanel’s new Bohemian Fantasy collection. Normally I don’t go for the more mid-tone pinks, but this one has a frost to it that really makes it beautiful. I wasn’t too crazy about pairing this lip with this look, so later in the day I went with a different CK color instead.

Look: Mineralize Golden

Getting out all of my mineralized eyeshadows inspired me to use them exclusively for a look. It’s warm and somewhat pretty. I got my hair cut the day I wore this look, so I included some full face shots before the cut AND after! I am REALLY happy with how it came out too! Enjoy!

MAC Cosmetics Well-Defined Studio Sculpt Collection

In addition to the Creamteam lippies that are coming out on February 5th, 2009 will be a foundation and concealer launch as well. This is a new formula and a gel concealer. I have no idea what it’s going to be like, but I’ll probably go in and have one of my favorite MA’s do my face all up in it so I can judge. Maybe a small sample will help me decide if I’d like to switch… :-)

Collection: MAC Depotted Eyeshadow Palettes

(As of January 12, 2009) EDITED!!!

I’ve decided that I will post pictures of my collection for the world to see! I realize that I am opening myself up to much criticism by showing this, but here goes nothin’… It will have to be in many parts because my collection is so large.

collection-eyeshadow-palettes-41

This post is the first because it’s easiest to photograph and organize. These are all of my MAC depotted eyeshadows that I keep in these palettes that each hold 15. I label them on the outside with a label maker and store them vertically in a carrying case so that I can easily flip through to find the certain palette I’m looking for. They’re separated mostly by color. The two exceptions are the PRO palette which contains all of the MAC shadows that can only be found at a PRO store and the Neutral colors which are further separated by LE (Limited Edition) and Perm (Permanent) colors.

I have and do continue to use almost every single color, although it’s apparent that some are more favored than others. This is a collection I have accumulated over MUCH time, and it is how I choose to spend my extra money (while other girls might shop for clothes or shoes or jewelry etc.). Of course I have a few of those other things, but I’d just as soon buy my clothes cheaply at the late Mervyn’s or Target, but buy high end makeup! It makes me happy!

Read on and you will be able to see close-ups of each one of my palettes! Read the rest of this entry »

Look: Sweetie Cakes Quad

This is easily my favorite MAC quad. The pink in particular is my favorite pink shadow. I don’t know why, but those colors together look so nice - more like something good to wear in the spring rather than in January, but oh well! It’s funny because I had done a look using NARS Joile Poupee duo (purples) and my eyes looked like a purple mess/mask! So I swiped it off and went with this quad for my look instead.

For this look, I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP as a primer, Fresco Rose Paint Pot as a base, the Sweetie Cakes quad: pink color (inner), green color (middle), purple color (outer + crease), duocrome cream color (highlight + browbone), Feline Kohl Power to line the upper lashline, UD 24/7 eyeliner in Lust for the waterline, and Chanel Exceptionnel mascara to finish.
  • Cheeks: Enough Said Beauty Powder Blush + Laura Mercier Orchid Mosaic for shimmer
  • Lips: What A Do lipstick topped with Peroxide lipglass

Review & Swatches: Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara

buxom-lash

I’m not a HUGE connoisseur of mascaras in general, though I have tried a few in my day. In the past I’ve used (and completely finished) Clinique, Dior, YSL, Chanel, and MAC mascaras (different types and such). Generally I stay away from all drugstore brand makeup (though I like some creams and face wash, etc.), and opt for the higher end stuff - not because I’m stuck up about it or whatever, but it’s just what I prefer.

Anyway, as a Beauty Insider at Sephora, every time you buy you get points, and then those points are redeemable for sample products. So the last time I went to Sephora with my lovely mother-in-law, I got a sample of Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara. Since I was at the end of my other two favorites, I figured I’d ACTUALLY try one of my samples (I know, what a concept!).

What I like about it most is the applicator wand. It’s shaped somewhat hourglass-like which makes it easier than normal to get to my inner and outermost lashes and made of plastic bristles. The best part though, is that it doesn’t get mascara on my eyelid! It seems that no matter how careful I am with other mascaras, I always seem to get some of it on my lid while I’m swiping (very inconvenient). So this one wins me over in the application department.

The staying power is pretty darn good, IMO. It doesn’t flake or smudge on me at all. My lashes still feel soft and movable, as opposed to stiff and brittle. The color is dark black, and it does elongate my lashes well, but it doesn’t look overdone. It’s a good mascara for everyday, but might not be quite thick enough for a night out when you want your lashes to almost look fake :-)

Would I buy it again? Yeah, I would buy it because I like the applicator brush so much. But it definitely falls second to my Chanel Exceptionnel. Have you used Buxom Lash? What do you think?

See pictures and compare for yourself! My “naked” :-O lashes vs. Buxom vs. Exceptionnel vs. MAC’s Plushlash. Read the rest of this entry »

Collection: Other MAC Eyeshadows

quads

Whew! Here are my MAC quads! These all came pre-assembled, usually with various launches. They’re all glued in there, and I don’t really care to take them out right now. It’s easy to tell which one is my favorite, eh?? That one at the top is called Sweetie Cakes (Look shortly to follow) and I actually have a back-up of it.

More pictures to follow are: special packaging shadows, cream shadows, and mineralized shadows.

MAC Cosmetics Creamteam Promo Pics

creamteam-promo

The next MAC launch is almost here - MAC Creamteam (Cremeteam)! It contains lip products only - all with a creamy finish. It launches on February 5, 2009 in the US. Believe it or not, the lavendar lipstick has HOT written all over it and there are many people lemming over it. I have NO idea how to wear it, but people claim it can be done. This will probably be the first launch that I will attempt to swatch and bring to my blog :-) I have no idea what I’m getting from this collection actually…these are only computer generated promo photos, so I’ll have to wait and see the real thing before I make my choices. A few of the lipsticks and all of the lip liners are re-releases (so obviously I have them already haha).

Collection: MAC Pigments

Here is part 2 of my makeup collection (as of January 13, 2009) - MAC Pigments!

pigments-34

Pigments are exactly that - loose pigment. They work the same as eyeshadows except they do not contain a binding agent (that most pressed shadows have). So this makes them versitile enough to use as shadows alone or to be mixed with agents like gloss, nail polish, or even water for a liner. I often blend them with MAC’s PRO product, Mixing Medium, and use them as eyeshadow bases. Amazingly, it keeps my look vibrant and doesn’t crease all day…though not quite as good as UDPP with a Paint Pot IMO.

I took pictures of all of the pigments open, somewhat organized by color. The pictures are labeled underneath. So keep reading to see closer pictures!! As always, ask any questions you’d like! Read the rest of this entry »

Look: Metal-X Gold, Red, & Purple

I actually got 3 compliments at work and one from a stranger (nice gal) at the nail salon today on this look. It’s kinda quirky, but somehow comes together without looking too rainbow-ish. This look was also inspired by a long-ago look from Temptalia.com. It’s bold and very “me”! Please feel free to leave your thoughts!

metal-x-gold-red-purple-look-2

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPP as a primer, Cash Flow Paint Pot as a base, Metal-X Pure Ore (inner lid & lower lashline), Metal-X Plum Electric (outer lid), Mi’ Lady (red side on the middle lid, purple side on the outer lid), Gorgeous Gold (inner lid), Top Hat + Parfait Amour (outer lid & crease), Femme-Fi (highlight and brow bone), Feline Kohl Power (upper lashline and waterline liner). I used Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: NARS Super Orgasm blush & Guerlain Terracotta in Indian Bronze to highlight
  • Lips: Chanel Lipgloss in 65 (very sheer red) and CK Delicious Flavored Lipgloss in Gold Frost for shimmer and shine
