Look: Honey Loooooove!

By looking at reviews and swatches from the Naked Honey collection, I had decided that I only wanted two lipglasses and two eyeshadows. I went to my favorite counter (the one I freelanced for), and my MUA James convinced me that I was very wrong! That Africanimal scent is really mesmerizing! I still passed on the peach colored e/s, but when the F&F sale came around I caved.

This is the look that James did on me was nothing short of A-MAZ-ING! I’m not kidding, and it takes a lot to impress me with my own makeup! And you know, I’ve gotten my makeup done numerous times by different makeup artists. Not since highschool (with the exception of my wedding) have I really been impressed with a makeup job, until James! Wow is he talented! My skin glowed like you wouldn’t believe. I couldn’t pass a mirror without staring into it…wow. The eyes were sharp! And the lips…gosh I love coral lips! So you know what I did?! I called my husband, and convinced him to pick me up and we went to the Melting Pot for a really nice dinner date with a bottle of good wine and incredible food! I felt like a princess :-)

Now I’m really inspired…I have to try to recreate this look on my own and make it look as good!!

Here are some new things I learned:

  • To get the sharp line on the waterline: he put down Smolder Kohl, patted Carbon on top of it, then another layer of Smolder. It was wicked sharp!
  • Line the lips after putting on the lipstick, then apply gloss. The line won’t look harsh that way
  • Do the eyes first, then the rest of the face…that’ll take some serious re-learning for me if I do that…
  • Put the dark colors on the eye first, then blend the inner lighter shade into the darker shade (actually I already do this most of the time, so that’s good)
  • Layer the blush/highlighter/bronzer and do more than just your cheeks: nose, jaw, above brows
  • Be generous with the lustre drops in your foundation if you really want to glow! :-)
  • The 187 brush makes for flawless foundation

For this look HE used:

  • Eyes: Rubenesque PP (base), Buckwheat (outer lid & crease), Pollinator (above crease), Crème de Miel (inner lid), Nylon (highlight), Smolder Kohl (liner), Smolder+Carbon+Smolder (waterline), Zoomlash mascara
  • Brows: Lingering Pencil + Girl Boy brow gel
  • Cheeks: Spring Sheen blush + Honey Light Illuminating Pressed Powder
  • Lips: Ravishing Creamsheen l/s + Spiced l/l + She’s a Star l/g

Look: Another Laura Geller Favorite

The only thing that sucks for me when it comes to mineral eyeshadow (MES) is just that…the mess they make! There’s a lot of fall out, but as long as you can maneuver around that, it’s worth it. Yeah, so I used the same shadow for the inside and the middle - since it’s marble swirled together, there are lighter spots and darker spots. I used the lighter baby/silver blue for the inner lid, and the darker navy for the middle.

Look: I <3 Laura Geller

There was no reason for me to actually do any makeup on this day, since we were just making the long drive home from Vegas, but I felt like it :-) We went to Sephora next to the Venetian because my friend Rachel had a gift certificate, and she wanted some help picking out shadows (duh, my specialty)! She ended up getting the Laura Mercier Sahara Sun Eye Mosaic (great choice…and surprisingly one I don’t have…yet).

ANYway, since I bowled so badly (which bummed me out), my fantastic husband told me he’d buy me some makeup from Sephora! OMG - this happens like once a year when he volunteers to buy me makeup! Soooooo sweet (and it totally turned my mood around…can you say bonus points?)! So I bought 3 new Laura Geller baked mineral shadows and two more of her mineral baked blushes. If you’ve never tried anything by Laura Geller, you seriously need to. Have you noticed lately that I’ve been using her Pink Grapefruit blush like all the time?! That’s because I’m completely in love with it…it seriously might be my new HG, and I never would have seen that coming! It gives me the perfect color, perfect sheen, not to mention great application and staying power. I highly recommend it, but beware if you have allergies because the first ingredients are talc and mineral oils. But for me, it’s the cat’s meow ;-)

Look: Smoldering Spiced Chocolate

The texture of the shadows in the Spiced Chocolate quad is seriously unparalleled. The colors are so incredibly pigmented too…almost too much, but that’s ok. It’s a very unique set of colors, and I made a descently dark look with it.

Look: Smoke in Vegas Casinos

This past weekend we went to Vegas for our end of the season bowling tournament. I got ready for the whole day/night in the morning, and I went for a smokey eyeshadow look. Casinos are usually filled with smoke, so smokey eyes is appropriate right? LOL! I wore a dress out that night - the same one I wore to my students’ graduation. Although I wore just a white t-shirt to bowl in for the morning (which is when I took these pictures). It’s a different look for this dress, and I kinda liked it with my new hair cut. Husband liked it too ;-)

Look: Lips are Buzzin’

I’m in a total pickle…maybe you can help me out. So I went to the MAC counter yesterday to place my Norstrom Anniversary pre-orders, and my favorite MA James talked saw me and brought me over…and talked me into buying a lot of Naked Honey stuff. Now, I had already told myself that I wasn’t going to buy anything until the F&F sale (25% off!). I like most of what I got…so my dilemma is this: do I keep what I got, and just say oh well to the 25% off, or do I return most of it (unused) to a different location and then re-purchase online and get the discount? What should I do? I guess I’m only conflicted because I don’t like to return stuff. I know it counts against them, and I dunno. Thoughts? Advice?

I had to use the lippies…just couldn’t wait, so I won’t be returning those. But to not use my Honey Light Powder…that took a LOT of my willpower!

Nails: Time For a Real Manicure

Since I change my nail polish about once every 3-5 days or so, my poor nails are a little ragged. I don’t take really great care of them, and they’re still growing out the ridges from when I had acrilics. So I caved and got an actual real manicure this time (done at the salon). I am seriously amazed at how long it stayed nice! By the second day, there was still not one chip!! I kept it on for like a full 5 days and it was looking ok. I don’t know how they do it and make it stay so nicely…wish I did!

Anyway, here is Nubar Peacock Feathers - two coats with a top coat. Isn’t it just brilliant under the sun?! You should see the beautiful job they did on my toesies! The flower design is really pretty too!

Look: Bronzy Brown

Well, since I did that tutorial, I filled up the little card on my makeup camera with pictures, and I hadn’t emptied it in a while, so there wasn’t room for more pictures from this look! So you only get 3 full face shots (which is probably enough anyway, and I go completely overboard with different angles!). This look used all pigments!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPPS (primer), Indian Wood PP (base), Rose Bronze Pigment (inner lid), Museum Bronze Pigment (middle & outer lid), Copperclast Pigment (crease), Vanilla Pigment (highlight), Bobbi Brown Chocolate Shimmer Ink (liner), Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: Vi-Vacious Pressed Powder
  • Lips: Style Warrior lipglass

OMG My Hair is Gone!

Well, that’s exaggerating a lot, but it’s so short!! I pull it back to wash my face and it’s still everywhere because it doesn’t reach! I went to Avena to get it cut last week, and I like them because you get more for the price like a scalp massage, beverage, long hair wash. I had this really tall guy who was really nice, but he kept cutting…and cutting…and cutting…! The cutting went on for it had to be more than 20 minutes! I’m kinda shy when it comes to hair people, so I didn’t say anything. I told him I just wanted a trim and that I liked the length…but maybe he didn’t. I don’t know, I just kept telling myself that he knows what he’s doing. He blow dried it out and fixed my bangs funny (well, funny to me), so I went home and took pictures to see how it really changed my look…and boy does it! Unfortunately, I don’t think it changes it for the better :-( Saddies!

Look: Gray with Dark Lips

The lips looked great when I looked in the mirror…forgive the close-ups :-) I wore this look on a day when I had to make a really important presentation to the whole faculty! Despite some technical difficulties, it went pretty well. And apparently people think I’m “dressed up” when I wear darker lips. Go figure!
