Look & Review: Dior Amber Design Quint

I’m not a huge fan of Dior quints only because their pigmentation is usually too weak for my taste. The quality is great, but most of the time the colors muddy together on my lid.

That being said, I have very mixed feelings about this particular “quint” which I wouldn’t even say is a quint because it only has 4 eyeshadow colors, and one of those is only a “shine” color. In place of the 5th color is a brown gel (I think) liner. To be honest, I felt jipped! I have a ton of brown eyeliners! Ah well, I do see the value in having everything all together in one place I suppose, and to give it credit, the liner was very nice and dark, so it worked well with the palette.

The shadow colors themselves, are pretty nice. They’re not incredibly unique, but they’re very pretty. I love golds and coral colors and browns. It creates a nice soft look, which is great, but not what I’m all about, you know? The shadows are soft and go on smoothly. And on a side note…I’m really liking this lip combo! :-)

What are your thoughts?

Look: Color Crafted Cheeks

These mineralized blushes from MAC’s Color Crafted Collection are some of the prettiest blushes ever. The swirl of colors is brilliant. I may have gone a bit overboard with the cheek color today, but I can’t help it. I love the way it looks, especially up against a red shirt. :-) The eyes using pretty much just that little quad, also came out great. So far, I’m impressed with the few products I’ve tried from this glorious launch!

Look: MAC Freelance Work - Solar Bits Love

I worked again for MAC a couple weeks ago. It was some freelance hours, and I’m really happy they called me. It was a lot of fun! I sold stuff (of course) and did a few make-overs, one on a girl going to an Indian Wedding :-) She liked her look so that made me happy! This look was one I particularly like, and I actually had several customers asking what products I was wearing because they really liked the “foil” look that the Solar Bits gave it. I hooked ’em up :-) And of course, I didn’t let them get the Solar Bits without getting at least one Paint Pot…because really it would just be irresponsible of me to let them try to do a look without one, right?! Hmmm, so that gets me thinking…what do YOU all use as an eyeshadow primer/base?? What works best for you?

Look: Another James Honey Attempt

This was my favorite of the times I tried to recreate the look James did with the MAC Honey collection. I did the exact same thing he did using the exact same colors. You know, I think this is one of my favorite looks. Like for one of those days when you just don’t know what to pick or what look to do. It might just be my go-to look. For me, it was easy, and I adore the way it comes together.

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: Rubenesque PP (base), Buckwheat (outer lid & crease), Pollinator (above crease), Crème de Miel (inner lid), Nylon (highlight), Smolder Kohl (liner), Smolder+Carbon+Smolder (waterline), Zoomlash mascara
  • Brows: Lingering Pencil

  • Lips: Ravishing Creamsheen l/s + Spiced l/l + She’s a Star l/g

Look: Melon

I don’t use Melon pigment much, but I think I should :-) I know it’s one of Temptalia‘s favorite pigment bases, and for good reason! It’s got great shimmer!!

Look: Oh Sweet Honey

This was my first attempt to recreate that awesome look that James (my MA) did for me. I think it was fair…not perfect, but definitely not a fail. :-) I don’t have very many pictures though because I was running late and I had to get to work earlier than usual. Plus…I was in a sad mood because husband and I got in a tiff the night before. No worries though, all is now well in the Coloruza household :-) So what do you think?

Look: I <3 Laura Geller

There was no reason for me to actually do any makeup on this day, since we were just making the long drive home from Vegas, but I felt like it :-) We went to Sephora next to the Venetian because my friend Rachel had a gift certificate, and she wanted some help picking out shadows (duh, my specialty)! She ended up getting the Laura Mercier Sahara Sun Eye Mosaic (great choice…and surprisingly one I don’t have…yet).

ANYway, since I bowled so badly (which bummed me out), my fantastic husband told me he’d buy me some makeup from Sephora! OMG - this happens like once a year when he volunteers to buy me makeup! Soooooo sweet (and it totally turned my mood around…can you say bonus points?)! So I bought 3 new Laura Geller baked mineral shadows and two more of her mineral baked blushes. If you’ve never tried anything by Laura Geller, you seriously need to. Have you noticed lately that I’ve been using her Pink Grapefruit blush like all the time?! That’s because I’m completely in love with it…it seriously might be my new HG, and I never would have seen that coming! It gives me the perfect color, perfect sheen, not to mention great application and staying power. I highly recommend it, but beware if you have allergies because the first ingredients are talc and mineral oils. But for me, it’s the cat’s meow ;-)

Look: Lips are Buzzin’

I’m in a total pickle…maybe you can help me out. So I went to the MAC counter yesterday to place my Norstrom Anniversary pre-orders, and my favorite MA James talked saw me and brought me over…and talked me into buying a lot of Naked Honey stuff. Now, I had already told myself that I wasn’t going to buy anything until the F&F sale (25% off!). I like most of what I got…so my dilemma is this: do I keep what I got, and just say oh well to the 25% off, or do I return most of it (unused) to a different location and then re-purchase online and get the discount? What should I do? I guess I’m only conflicted because I don’t like to return stuff. I know it counts against them, and I dunno. Thoughts? Advice?

I had to use the lippies…just couldn’t wait, so I won’t be returning those. But to not use my Honey Light Powder…that took a LOT of my willpower!

Look: Bronzy Brown

Well, since I did that tutorial, I filled up the little card on my makeup camera with pictures, and I hadn’t emptied it in a while, so there wasn’t room for more pictures from this look! So you only get 3 full face shots (which is probably enough anyway, and I go completely overboard with different angles!). This look used all pigments!

For this look I used:

  • Eyes: UDPPS (primer), Indian Wood PP (base), Rose Bronze Pigment (inner lid), Museum Bronze Pigment (middle & outer lid), Copperclast Pigment (crease), Vanilla Pigment (highlight), Bobbi Brown Chocolate Shimmer Ink (liner), Chanel Exceptionnel mascara
  • Cheeks: Vi-Vacious Pressed Powder
  • Lips: Style Warrior lipglass

Look: Solar Bits

Within the Style Warriors launch, there was the reappearance of Solar Bits. The first time they made their debut was with Neo Sci-Fi last year, and there were 4. I picked up Black Ore and Scatterrays that time. This time, the other two were re-released, so I got those, and created this look with them. I used the three gold ones, and the fall out wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. The effect they make is awesome though - like foiling! I thought it was gorgeous. The lipstick…I loved the way it came together before I put my brown jacket on, but after…I think it was a little too light. Thoughts?
